ORGERS WHO LIVE IN/HAVE TRAVELED TO NEW YORK Any recommendations on cheap hotels/hostels? I'm really not fussy, I'm more concerned with where the best area in the city would be to stay in, considering I don't know anything about the city. Any hostel works as long as it has private rooms available.

ornote cborgman, devotedpuppy or purplecharm. I think they're very familiar with New York's hangouts. 2the9s is in brooklyn but he's sort of uppidity and stuff. Also, DanceWme is there. You should crash at her place, get drunk together, have sex, take pictures and post them here.

Hi Laurel, the Big Apple Hostel is literally just up the road from Times Square and is one of the best hostels I've ever stayed in. Highly recommend it I'll be staying there again myself when I'm in NYC in Sep.

How cheap are you looking for (ballpark)? I don't have any experience with hostels here, but many hotels are offering some cheap rates right now.

It's a basic hotel but very clean, tidy and convenient and has everything you need. the biggest plus is being so close to Times Square though it's a FANTASTIC location to stay in, especially for the money.

If you're coming over the summer, I'd recommend checking to see if they offer AC. You'll want it!

Ex-Moderator | I'm staying here in May:
http://www.hotel17ny.com/ I found a better deal on orbitz than on their own site. All the reviews I've read are GREAT! It's in an AWESOME location! Unfortunately, I don't think $60-70 a night is realistic if you want a private room. You can likely get a dorm-style bunk for that, though. I can't remember which hostel I stayed in the first time I went to New York when I was about your age, but it was near NYU and was really reasonable. Clean, too. So a hostel can be OK. You're not going to be spending much time there. |

Is it on W 34 St and eight avenue? I think so. My dad just booked a room there for around that price. From the sound of it, it's not the most cushy hotel but for an overnight stay or for some place to put your stuff and sleep, it sounds like it's not so bad.

I've got mixed up with another hotel in the area. Sorry.
