ugh! I can't stand flakes!!! So long story short. I am producing a play. I spent a lot of time casting, writing, setting up a recording date and communicating with everyone.
I have six people scheduled to show up at a recording studio on Friday and FOUR days before we are supposed to record, an actor emails me, who has one of the lead roles: "I have to withdraw. I've kept myself on the shelf as long as I could. But I have other slots to fill." WTF? Why did he take the part? I ask for TWO hours on Friday, and am VERY flexible with scheduling. I should have known when he asked for a stipend, after I EXPLICITLY said on my audition post that there was none. And I had a hunch something was off when he wrote me earlier today with the line "Looks like things are coming along for you" which I thought was rather CONDESCENDING but I tried to not to notice. People waste my time.

It sounds to me like I wasn't moving fast enough for him. Or there wasn't enough meat to his part or something. I definitely get the feeling that he's 'above' my project.

He is not a friend (to say the least). I got some harsh feedback. Evidently it was a test to 'prove' myself as a director. Fail! haha I cast another actor for the part is less than 24 hours.

The actor (the one YOU gave the job to) was trying to make you prove yourself as a director? What a dip shit. Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. ~Berthold Auerbach

The actor (the one YOU gave the job to) was trying to make you prove yourself as a director? What a dip shit. The truth comes out. He was going out of town in May and had to flake out on his commitment, so he painted it to look like it was my fault. Very unprofessional. He said I was naive, that my directorship was lacking, that my writing was 'marginal' -- though the script was the best I had to offer him as a 'well-seasoned old timer'. Then he chastises me for taking it personally. What a tough day! Whew! Onward!

Really?...
I think they're rather yummy Sorry, I couldn't resist I agree though - it makes you wanna smack 'em upside the head and it's so frustrating when it's something that means a lot to you and you've been working towards something important and they fuck it up with their 'couldn't care less' attitude Not cool. I'm not stopping. I haven't even taken my coat off

And then he gave me the line: This is the Bay Area not Iowa! (implying that Iowans have nothing better to do but to hang around and keep their commitments, while San Franciscans have all the right in the world to break them) What a stupid thing to say!
