If you had a trip booked 2 Cancun

We booked a trip on priceline to the Moon Palace in Cancun. Shelled out about $2700. Not sure if we are going to get it back. Leaving on mother's day.

Would you go and chance it?

This isn't a popular answer, but you asked. I wouldn't go and chance it--I think it's selfish. How would you feel if your trip fostered the spread of the flu in your hometown? Somebody else could die because you decide to knowingly go to an area with a virus that is highly contagious and potentially deadly. A newborn child, somebody's mom or dad, a chemo patient, the elderly--anybody could lose their life all because of your vacation. Are you okay with that possibility, if a contamination was traced back to you after a fatality? Is somebody's life worth less than 3K? People are dying....and right now there is a fear of a major pandemic.

Who knows, maybe by the time of your trip they will know more and have a better grap of the situation with better treatment.

This is what trip insurance is for...

If you have a travel insurance and can get a full refund and are worried about the pig flu, then don´t go but if I were in your situation I would go because I think this whole thing is blown out of proportion. I travel a lot and go to very far away places quite regularly and there is always a certain risk, everywhere and everytime. This whole fear of an epidemic is some sort of hype.

Let's see...Bad economy+Officials warning not to travel+Mexico's popular tourist attractions are being shutdown for now = a great time to visit! confused

Just do yourself a favor and go to Florida, keep the money in the states and if you get a craving for Mexican, there's always Taco Bell! flip u

There are official warnings against travel to certain countries, mainly Mexico. It's quite a risk and U probably won't have peace of mind whilst there. Have U tried to contact the company to put the holiday on hold or change to another destination?

Even for selfish reasons, I wouldn't go, because flights have been in awry since this scare was announced.

I'd go. I believe it is being totally blown out of proportion AND at least as you take safety precautions, you and everyone around you should be fine. I don't think it's selfish that you want to go: people ain't thinking about YOU when they make their plans.

I would go and have a blast! Do what you want not what others want you to do and If it was really that bad then they should stop travel to and from Mexico and untill that happens go and have a good time! It is a little alarming that the bug is killing people but it only killed one so far oh and if there isn't travel insurance involved you bets to believe I will be there with a straw hat and a margarita! People on here all in your pockets! If I planned a trip and put money towards it that I potentially can't get back it wouldn't be a question whether or not to go! Rain sleet snow ice or the swine flu wouldn't keep me away! Live it up in Mexico!
There's no one that can do what I do!......not even HER!

not sure where U are but most airlines here in Canada have canceled all flights into Mexico with several companies offering alternative destination packages at no extra charge. It may be as simple as calling your agent. If not...get a rain check, this will blow over and Mexico will bend over backwards to win your business again later in the year.

Thanks for the replies. We are having a lot of trouble finding anything out with priceline. If we can get a refund, or delay the trip a few months we probably won't go now. We've used priceline before and had no problems with it. Of course the damn swine flu wasn't thrown into the equation then either. confuse

If you can swing it, go to Costa Rica instead, beautiful Country, people, wildlife, eco tourism, rainforests, Volcanoes, etc.

I don't think Cancun was affected by swine flu as far as we know. My family was there 2-3 weeks ago and are totally fine.

From what I've read, Germany was forcing airlines to stop all flights to Mexico. WHO says it really doesn't make sense to do that because the flu is already widespread. Fuck it, we might just go.

How is me booking trip the first of April and the damn swine flu showing up a fuck up? Should I have consulted a psychic before booking trip? Did you know the fucking plague was gonna hit? I'm really not worried about the opinion of someone who spells like a 1st grader.

This coming from someone who had to edit a two sentence response! lol And yeah, maybe it's not your fault for not obtaining travelers insurance. Afterall, it's not like your going to an impoverished country prone to hurricanes.

Exactly... Disease are passed around the globe on a daily basis... this is just a new one... relatively speaking very few people have died from it... the vast majority make a good recovery.
