Families spending less time together? http://tech.yahoo.com/new...amily_time
I say that yes, it is contributing to the breakdown of the "nuclear family" unit, but if in the process of getting onto all these social networks, the teen internet user creates a bigger family for himself/herself than he/she would have with just his birth family, then why is that being touted as totally bad? Yes, the possibility exists for the person to only have peers their own age around them, and they might not always know the difference between "right and wrong", but I know plenty of kids who want older adults in their lives. For me, I more than sometimes think the world would be better off without the "family unit", because it's through the "family unit" that children first learn how to be intolerant of different people and how they learn to hate. The "family unit" seems more mythology at this point than anything. Thoughts, org?

I was at a recent cookout, and we all sat in the yard.... texting. No one looked up for at least 1/2 an hour and they were all "facebooking" the event. Only the teens were catually talking to one another while the adults texted virtually the entire night.
what's the point if you can't rip yourself away from a gadget long enough to communicate with someone right next to you.

No cell phones or video games allowed at my kitchen table, ever.
My biggest gripe is my 16 year old daughter, riding in the car with me, she sits in the front seat with her Ipod on. WTH? stupid me spelling edit. [Edited 6/15/09 16:45pm]

Oh, same here, hell no. We occasionally eat with Jeopardy! on the TV in the next room, but that's about it.
