On her last day I had to learn the distribution for some reports and as we were walking back from passing them out she says "I know you're happy I'm leaving". I didn't say a word and just kept smiling in the sun And just because a lady is old don't mean I gotta let her shove me out of line and yell at me! I don't take no crap from old ladies. I'll cut them some slack but if evil is covered in wrinkled skin, I don't spare it. Wow! that sounds like harassment, but you've handled that well somehow. What stopped you from taking legal action against this woman? It was but truly, there was nothing I could do about it. It made me cry it pissed me off so bad. One time she was walking by as my soda pop exloded off my bottle and hit the wall. It missed her by a millisecond and I'm sure she thought I did it on purpose. I also found some of her triggers and pushed them often! Given the choice to beat her ass or win a lawsuit, I'd be mighty tempted to forsake the latter I used to go to bingo halls a lot in the 90's with my friend and her mother. The most I've won was $400 dollars, and her mother won $3,000 dollars. The elderly ones I've seen were pretty cool, including the workers My best night I took $25 and left with $2,000! Most of the ladies are cool but there are a few that definitely need to know the time and [b]constantly![/]b 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Anxiety said: sometimes i feel like i should be more outspoken and opinionated, especially when i'm in situations where people around me are talking smack about things that i personally take offense to.
but i think it's wiser to consider where that would get me. would people really learn from what i have to say? would i open up any kind of meaningful dialogue? would i stand to gain anything from it? or would it just turn in to a nasty headbutting session that ends up in hurt feelings and resentments? i think there is a point where it's perfectly acceptable to say, "okay, that's it, you're gonna hear from ME now," but mostly i think it's just as empowering for me to keep my mouth shut as it is to let it all hang out. very well said!

I'm more apt to do it in a non-work setting.
When I go back to visit my parents in small town Iowa (after living in Chicago for 6 years and NYC for 5 1/2), I am usually reminded of the close-mindedness of people. If it's something completely egregious, I'll usually say something. Last time I went home, some acquaintances were making sweeping stereotypes of the Indian guy who had bought the grocery store in town. So I calmly tried to provide alternate points of view. I didn't think I was being that agressive about it, but I am also not one to back down when I think I'm right. At my previous job I used to get upset about a lot of stuff -- I thought (and still do) that my supervisors were poor managers and borderline unethical. I tried to fight the good fight and go through proper channels, but was met with federal, bureaucratic bullshit until I resigned. In my new job I am trying to not care as much. It is easier because of the company size, but we utilize a lot of graduate school interns. Last Friday I had to break it down to one of them. She has proven to be incompetent at the simplest of tasks (making photocopies, for example), and when I was telling her what to do for an errand I needed her to run (to the post office) she was not paying attention (reading something else & not looking at me). When I called her out, she said it wasn't that complicated of a task. I pointed out that considering she had failed to complete simpler tasks correctly previously, she did in fact need to listen - and look at me - when I was speaking to her. The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

I've been pondering this myself lately.
After spending years cultivating nonattachment and learning to keep my mouth shut, lately I seem to be letting loose more and more often, especially when I feel I'm being taken advantage of. Not sure why. The Normal Whores Club
