Natural alternatives for pregnant women

Hello everybody heart
I just recently got promoted to being a Home based educator for pregnant women. I'm still feeling my way around and trying to find as much information as I can for the. One client that I have is dead set against any kind of medicines going in her body. She plans to breast feed exclusively (woot!)and attempt natural child birth. The other thing is that she doesn't like the prenatal vitamins she has to take and she wants something as natural as possible. I looked up a bit of information but wasn't quite sure what I was looking for. I want to be sure that these things are safe for the baby before I give her information. I'd also like to add that she's a struggling student so the cheaper the better. Remedies are welcome also. Any advice/information is greatly appreciated.

spirulina is a pretty natural supplment as far as i know, not sure about taking it when pregnant though. the best thing to do would be to look at her diet and make sure she is getting her vits & minerals from her foods, which is what we all should be doing anyway.

i was so sure when i was pregnant with my first child that i wouldn't touch the drugs that i was on the verge of smugness. i changed my mind after seven hours of labour and was so glad of the pethedine, and later the epidural!

for the labour pains, i found that sitting on a birthing/exercise ball really helped in the early stages.

She could start seeing a Homeopathic dr. I started seeing one when I found out I was pregnant. My sis in law used her during both pregnancies.

She helped her with morning sickness,her pelvic disorder and with delivery. Using natural supplements and remedies.

I have known several women that have achieved the "no drug" natural labor and felt great right afterward.

A good friend here on the org recommended a book to me that I am going to read on the beach in Italy in 8 days.
It is called "Ina May's Guide to Childbirth".
I have read that it is a very helpful book for preparing yourself for the delivery.

Also Raspberry Leaf tea is helpful in preparation for the birth:

t contains a uterine tonic and, taken daily in the last six to eight weeks of pregnancy, it helps to prepare the uterine muscles for labour and thereby ease the process of childbirth.

In a study carried out in Sydney, Australia, 192 first-time mums were given at random either a 1.2g raspberry leaf tablet or a placebo twice a day from 32 weeks of pregnancy. The herb had no harmful effects on mother or baby, and those women who had taken raspberry leaf tablets were found to have a shorter second stage of labour and a lower rate of forceps delivery (19.3 per cent versus 30.4 per cent). However, far more research is needed to confirm these results.

It is very important not to use raspberry leaves until the last two months of pregnancy because of their stimulating effect on the uterus. Start with one cup of tea a day or one tablet and build up gradually to a maximum of four cups of tea or tablets daily. The tea can be sipped freely during labour, too.

Natural childbirth is achievable. Sadly for the USA and the UK we are shown and told from a early age that it is going to hurt like nothing you have ever felt before and be the most agonising thing in your life to go through. In the Netherlands they have a totally different approach and natural home birth is common placed. It is largely to do with mind conditioning.

As for drugs not really sure what to suggest. This is a great alternative to iron tablets http://www.spatone.com the tablets made me feel horrible, this was such a great recommendation.

I am not a big fan of supplements in the diet of any kind. The natural products we need for a healthy pregnancy are contained within the food you eat. However the evidence for folic acid sup's is actually quite compelling. My advice therefore would be eat a healthy well ballanced diet trying to focus on foods high in folic acid.

Good luick on the natural child birth advice. They might change their mind when it comes to it.

Yeah I know but we give it to them any way. Some of the women I see really don't know a lot. Some are very young.

I didn't want an epidural when I was pregnant with my first but I was in so much pain that I didn't care. I still don't recommend epidurals because they may cause lower back pain later on. After after him I started experiencing lower back pain when I got really stressed out.

I didn't want an epidural when I was pregnant with my first but I was in so much pain that I didn't care. I still don't recommend epidurals because they may cause lower back pain later on. After after him I started experiencing lower back pain when I got really stressed out.


i was very lucky with my epidurals, they worked perfectly both times and i have not had any side affects at all. at the time though youy just go to mush and give in because of the pain.

She sounds like me lol

I used both a Medical and Homeopathic Dr - I did not use drugs and I took 100% natural whole food suppliments not synthetic

There is ALL kinds of info out there now that back 20 yrs ago was much harder to come by eek Thanx to the web woot!
