hypothyroidism

does anyone have this/anyone you know have this?

do you have to take hormones?

I had a physical this morning and my doctor is testing me for it. I forgot to ask when I'll find out so I'm gonna have to call them later or something.

I HATE the idea of having to take hormones for the rest of my life. sad I'm hoping I'm just fine. although it would explain a lot.

I know very little about it but I hope everything goes well for you Carrie. Hopefully if you do need the hormones though, they will make a difference to your life. I hope so. hug

Thanks. hug

All things considered, this is pretty minor but I'm still a little disturbed at the thought of taking a pill every day forever.

good to know she's better. smile

I have a handful of the symptoms but I'm thankful hair loss isn't one of them. That must have been quite frightening for her.

My mom is hypothyroid. She felt like hell but after she got on medication, she feels a lot better. Having a thyroid problem obviously isn't anything anybody wants, but at least it's one of the most simple conditions to treat.

I have almost every symptom of hypothyroid and have had my thyroid levels checked so many times over the years, but because the range of "Normal" for thyroid levels is so broad the doctors say there is nothing they can do at this point to treat me, not until my labs come back technically abnormal.

I hope you're okay, but if you do have to take medication, you're going to feel lots better and in the end that'll be worth it.

I've been tested a couple of times and each time they tell me that I am just on the cusp (is that the right word?)of having it - so they do nothing. neutral

Thanks.

A friend of mine said the same thing, actually. They test her all the time and has a family history but she never tests positive...

You can also talk to a Homepathic Pro ... ( I use one for almost all medical things 1st before script meds )

and read up on Thyromine

it is a natural herbal remedy that helps your thyroid work well.

I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism several years ago. One of the things they wanted to put me on were animal based.
Make sure you research what they want to give you, which I am sure you will.

I had hypothyroidism about 6 years ago. I was given a small pill to take daily. I think I was on the pill for about a year. Then my levels of T3 or T4, I can't remember which one now...were at a normal level and I was taken off of the pill. I've been checked a few times since then and my levels were ok.

Although lately, I'm feeling tired again, having some join pain, weight gain and sometimes my memory isn't as clear as I would like it to be. Perhaps I should have the thyroid test done again. hmmm

I'm not trying to insight any worry but I should also say that I had a lot of hormone problems after that but doctors didn't say it was due to hypothroidism rather it was perimenopause. Last year I had a hysterectomy,as this was the best course of action for all of the problems I was having.

If you do have hypothyroidism and have to take hormones it might not be for the rest of your life....please think positively and don't get too worried. Handle it one day at time. comfort

whew. That's encouraging. I really and truly hate the ides of having to take pills. I have a pill-o-phobia a bit.

I had it when I was 9 years-old and I've had it 2 years ago.
The first time the doctor prescribed me some meds to bring my thyroid index to normal. Once this was achieved, the doc took me off from the meds.
The second time, I didn't need any meds.

I wish you luck with the test results, CarrieMpls. hug

Both my sisters, and my uncle have this. I was tested for it about 3-4 years ago,and did not have it. I have never heard of hormones as a treatment for this. My sisters, and uncle all have to take a single pill a day. I am thinking I might have to get re-tested for this, because the symptoms in this article really sounds like me.

You'd just have to take the thyroid hormone itself in a pill. Nothing that your body shouldn't be making itself. That's all. No side-effects, once they get you maintained at the right dose (which requires blood tests periodically). It's really not bad.

Late my grandma on my father's side. She got her thyroid gland removed but couldn't tell what med she was on.

My other grandma on my mother's side got hyperthyroidism and had half the gland removed. She's taking levothyrox (hormones) each & every day.

Due to this family past medical history I got my thyroid gland checked at least once a year. I'm thankful it still works normally at the time! woot!
Is there any place of refuge one can flee from this insanity

Before starting thyroid medication get checked for iodine levels. It could well be cured by taking a kelp tablet or incorporating more seaweed into your diet.

I hate waiting for test results. sad

Carrie, does your clinic have a program you can enroll in that will allow you to access your medical records and stuff online? I finally did that at both the clinics I've gone to and it's pretty nice because you can usually see test results a lot faster vs waiting for them to mailed, and also you can email your doctor and ask questions and make appointments online.

I know that doesn't help in this situation, but maybe for future tests...

I hope things come back okay for you. rose
