A Friend Of Mine Just Bought Me "The Mary Tyler Show" & "Rhoda" On DVD... She was shocked to know that I haven't watched either shows, so she bought me these as a start...
I'm 1/2 way through Mary's 1st season, I have to say it has ALL the ingredients of nostalgia for me(sentimental, funny, occasionally corny and the colorful fashion statements are blinding I have to say though, as much as I like doormat Mary, when Phyllis & Rhoda get toghether in one room,,,,its wild I've been sick all week, those gifts were much needed distractions

I LOVE THESE! I have the first 3 seasons of MTM. "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

With Bea Arthur? Sure! I think Good Times was a spin-off of that show, and if I'm not mistaken, Donny Hathaway sang the theme song. I have to say though, I'm not that fimiliar with the show's plot(Then again, I'm not even thaaaat fimiliar with the infamous Golden Girls

Speaking of 70s sitcoms,I heard that Michael and Thelma from "Good Times" are writing a book together. It will reveal alot of behind-the-scenes drama that went on with that show. Can't wait for that book!

The only drama I'm fimiliar with is the infamous Esther Rolle/John Amos Vs Jimmie Walker character. And deservingly so. I'd say the ONLY sitcom that depicted black people truthfully was the Cosby Show. When I watch the Jeffersons/Good Times, I see nothing but cartoons,,,,,its funny for awhile, but their roles are VERY morbid and one-dimensional.

I love 'The Jeffersons' but I have minor complaint about it: on nearly every episode, they remain in that apartment! I get claustophobic watching it sometimes, lol. They really needed to venture out more.Think about it: how many episodes have you seen where all the action takes place inside their apartment?

It gets better as it goes on, especially once nympho Sue Ann Nivens (Betty White) comes on.
