How long will a new PC last without virus protection when surfing the NET?

never.


i've got 2 potential buyers of my old imac g4 simply because they are so frustrated with PCs and the viruses. they threw out their PC because they could never use it for long before it needed serviced for viruses.

Never had a virus in all of the years I have had my PC's and laptops. I have never been dumb enough to go without protection. You can get it for free.

Ok, with the greatest respect this is a pretty moot/dumb question because it depends on so many factors.
It is like saying "how long can i fuck without a condom without getting and STI?"

If you fuck everything that moves with not a care in the world, not thought for consequence and without asking questions or acting wisely then not very long.

If you fuck the same, known disease free person frequently and exclusively then never.

So if we make the analogy really,really simple....


If you are not careful, surf dangerous places, download anything and everything without regards then not long.

If you surf safely, don't act stupid and use known safe sites.....a very long time.

I wouldn't dare use it without virus protection. And seriously, unless I absolutely am being lazy or have to, I don't connect the PC to the Internet. I use my mac...

To be fare, I am talking about Windows XP and not Vista, which I am largely unfamiliar with. But even then, I'll be unlikely to chance it.

I hate to admit this publicly but I've had my laptop for a year and a half and other than the initial free McAfee trial (that lasted 30 days or so?) I haven't had anything on it. And I've never had a virus.

But I don't go searching for porn, so there is that.
