I listen to stuff I listened to as a kid more than as a teenager, cause I was around good music from the 60's, 70's and 80's and have expanded my knowledge and collection of it over the years.

Gosh..NO.
I mean I get all nostalgic when I hear Earth Wind and Fire but also excited when I discover new music (to me) from for example Holly Cole

I still listen to the same core music and artists that I listened to in grade school. My taste has evolved over the years, but my core music is still the same.
Now, I did grow up in a small town and we only had one urban station for the majority of my life. It was an AM station that went off at 6pm. So, I had to learn to appreciate pop, rock and country music. I became a big fan of Billy Joel, James Taylor and others at an early age. I then got into the Oak Ridge Boys, Kenny Rogers and Alabama. Not to mention Def Leopard, Loverboy, and Bon Jovi. I grew up about 200 miles east of Dallas and my parents went to visit their siblings in Dallas most weekends. So, I used to take 3 or 4 cassettes and record off of the radio and catch up on the latest hits of the 80s. I still follow what's being played on radio, but I only listen to conventional morning radio. The rest of the time, I listen to satellite radio. Thanks to radio boards, I keep up with what's new. If it's some artist or song that I find interesting, I'll go to a site like sinternet and listen to it. [Edited 4/22/09 12:19pm] **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I still listen to some of the music that I use to listen to as a teen, but some I have gotten tired of. I was also into Boy Bands, and those CD's have all been boxed up,and are ready to go with me on my next trip to Amoeba.
DO I follow the Radio? No the only time that I listen to the radio is on Saturday, one of the radio stations has a Saturday 80's Night. Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. ~Berthold Auerbach

....the only change is that my library is much more rock oriented since today's rap SUCKS ASS and R&B has degenerated, for the most part, to a bunch of 20-somethings begging for poonanny..... Give me RATM or give me death!!!! Co-fucking sign... Have been rotating RATM albums in the car lately (again) and some classic Whitey Ford and House of Pain.....ahhh the good old days. Oh and my "getting ready to race" track NEVER changes....Bring the Noise-Public Enemy Wut up Big Daddy Phil.... the best for me is that my son is starting to quote Zach....but my question is which bring da noise do you bump..the orginal or the remix with Anthrax??? I hold onto my childhood 70's stuff too ...otherwise I'm always looking for indie acts online, because you couldn't pay me to buy or download the pop or r&b on radio or video rotation these days. No chance.

for the most part, yeah. went through my neo-soul and "conscious" hip-hop phase, then was bumpin' radiohead like crazy and other shit like that and the "the" bands when they were hot (the white stripes, the strokes, etc.) and then prince came into my life and that was it . i still play most of that stuff and others occasionally, but mainly just p life's a bitch, but god forbid the bitch divorce me...

I share a strong affinity with my older sister. She is primarily my MAIN kindred spirit when it comes to music because I just identify with her musically, and I've told her this. I rummage through her vinyl now and the stuff she loves is so on-par with what I'm feeling. She was always into alternative/wide-ranging stuff, be it new wave, mod, house, dance, R&B, indie, hip-hop, etc.
My older sister introduced/exposed me to this compilation when I was 15... I still remember the first time I heard this. I played this over and over that day. I was at the computer in the living room and my older sister dropped by, we were chatting and she shared this CD with me, which she borrowed from the Los Angeles County Public Library. I want to say it was a Sunday or something like it because when I play this I remember that moment. I feel like mom was making dinner for us and I could smell whatever was cooking while this was playing. It was a cloudy/overcast day, the front door was open. Musically, if anything, I've expanded on most of the stuff I listened to as a youth and this is but a touch. And a touchstone and that. My siblings are so unbelievably open-minded when it comes to all types of music so I grew up with that. We would blast anything. Each one of them I love. My sister: We think a lot, we feel a lot and, through this, we have the same blood and DNA. I love her vinyl collection, too. So I'm glad this came at a very impressionable time in my life.

Because I listened to such a wide variety of different genres when I was a teenager (Soul, Jazz, Country, Classical, Rock, Experimental, Electronica, Gospel, etc.), I can safely say I listen to the same music as an adult, and more. Whatever's out there, I listen to it. I can find something I like in every genre. As an example, today I've been listening to "The Band" from the 60's, as well as "Larry Heard" from 2007, while digging each of them respectively.
Yesterday, I came across an Isaac Hayes record that I hadn't heard since I was 15, and man it was sounding good. But then I thought to myself "...what kind of 15 year old kid would be listening to this kind of grown-folks music today?". It also reminded me of how back in the day, I would listen to entire albums (put the needle on the record, let it play all the way through - turn it over, and listen to the entire B-Side), and would be grooving with that. I had a lot of love & respect for music of all types when I was a teenager, and carried that with me into my adulthood.

Absolutely NOT. I have no clue what they're playing on the radio today. I actually stopped listening to the radio nearly 20 years ago. I don't need some corporation to try to brainwash me with the same 5 songs drilled into my head every hour, all damn day long, in hopes that I'll be convinced that it's worth buying, lol. The only way I hear radio today is if it's playing in some public place and I happen to be passing by. And every once in a while, I'll hear something I like. Though I'll admit, the last thing I incidentally heard on the radio that I liked enough to actually purchase, was "Ms. Jackson" by OutKast. Otherwise, too much music in the world to get hung-up on the radio. However, I do make a definite attempt to watch MTV/VH1/BET at least every 6 months or so for about an hour or two, just so I don't lose complete touch with the rest of the world, lol. I also watch a lot of other programs that feature all kinds of artists. And The Org is an excellent resource to help me keep on top of other stuff that's worth listening to, that I might not otherwise come across myself.

I'm still a teen, but I've evolved quite a bit. From like 12 to early 14 i used to listen to the radio, but then in 04 with all the musicology buzz i got became a P fan, and over the years i've branched out to classic rock, some metal, blues, jazz, funk and more old school r&b. Thanks Prince!

Yes, I do. Mainly because 90% of what's been played on the radio since about 1992 (or whenever Nirvana burst onto the scene and killed rock) has been crap.
This includes all rap, all hip-hop, all grunge, all alt-rock and pretty much everything else. I am older than most of you, and I will tell you that when you get to be up here like me, you really do want the younger generations to do better than you did. In everything - business, government, ecological issues, etc. Well, you guys have failed miserably in music! Step it up, young 'uns!

i don't follow the radio. i'm sure at least 50% of what i listen to today is what i listened to as a teenager, and the other 50% is probably influenced by it. when you realize what it is you really like, i don't think you ever really escape it.
