Do you follow the Radio?

good topic MRGEE I had this pary at my house this weekend and we puled out some ol skool jams, and had ablast, but I kept feeling like a child of the ninteys stuck there and for the next 50 years of my lif we would all still be loving the same damn songs, I mean it was nostalgic to enjoy the same songs I matured too, but I am ready to progress..


when Prince says don't you miss the feeling music gave you back inthe day, I agree cause the current pop music scene is sooooo gagable and the music that me and my friends enjoy is the jams we heard like ten yrs ago....

To answer your question, I pre-ordered Lotusflow3R, even though I received it in the mail 5 days after my local Target store had it on the shelves...

....the only change is that my library is much more rock oriented since today's rap SUCKS ASS and R&B has degenerated, for the most part, to a bunch of 20-somethings begging for poonanny.....

My musical taste has continued to evolve as I have aged thankfully. I rarely listen to the stuff I used to like when i was younger. I haven't listened to the radio besides NPR in probably 15 years. Thank god for the internet and good friends with taste.

I keep up with the radio on and off, and I find myself saying more and more that I don't know a certain song if people talk about it. Now I know why people after 25 or 30 don't care for everything on the radio and swore I wouldn't become like that as a teen, but it's happening now and I'm in my late 20's.

I listen to the same music that I heard as a child and as a teenager.I'm Old School I was a 70s child.I find that I enjoy that music much better than today's crap.

I still listen to the music I grew up on...and do my best to keep up with the radio now.

b4 my teen yrs I heard alot of gospel and Johnny Cash around the house so that's wat I grew up on.
My early teen yrs consisted of alot of dancehall reggea and rap ( I hated rock & roll and pop).
My mid to late teens consisted of a whole lotta rap and BET
Then when I hit 20 I went back to a whole lotta reggea (conscious, roots and dancehall).
Now I'm 23 and openin up to alot of old skool funk, rock and pop...all because of the purple one himself

In between all the changes, reggea is my first love
At this point in my life I mix it up wit a lil of almost every genre, but Prince dominates.

i find as i am getting older and can afford to buy cds on a regularbasis that i can develop my collection.
i am re-discovering bands from the past and i try to keep updated with some new stuff too.

For me it is a still mixture. But I think that my overall precentage of 80s music has go down and my Jazz and Classical music has gone up. I am listening to freaking AM stations in my car and home!!!! WT!!!

Do I listen to the same music as when I was a teenager? Actually, I don't. Back then, I listened to the funk, the whole funk, and nothing but the funk. Nowadays, my taste has expanded and not only do I listen to the funk I listened to as a teenager, but I also listen to the pop and rock of the 1970s and 1980s. I've even started going back a little further before my time and started exploring some of the R&B and rock of the 1960s. I've also branched out into listening to more blues than I used to and every now and then, a country song like "Elvira" just to trip folks out. I'm also thinking about really going back and get some swing type music like The Andrew Sisters.

Do I keep up with radio or the current scene? In the 1990s, when I was in my 20s, I already hated the current state of mainstream R&B and I got into the underground gay house music scene. When that turned to acid or trance type music, I dropped that scene. Did I listen to mainstream radio in the 1990s? Very little. Shit hop had taken over and I absolutely hate and despise every aspect of it from the sound of the music, to the speech and slang, to the dress and fashion (if you wanna call it fashion since it's just jeans and T Shirts). I hated shit hop since the early 1990s and found underground music to entertain me. When underground music went to the dogs, I started pulling out my old music but this time I expanded my tastes and started exploring other types of older music also besides just funk. As for current radio, I'll never listen to it again until shit hop either dies or goes underground.

I now have a far more expansive taste that includes the stuff I listened to as a teenager. I've probably only tapered off in any real way in how much hip hop I listen to. I'm more discriminating there now.

Radio? Eh... it is what it is. It can be decent background noise, but I no longer expect to be culturally enriched by it aside from some public or college stations.

Like Vainandy, when I was a teenager, it was mostly R&B/Soul/Funk/Disco. As I grew older, I expanded my taste to include rap(old skool), reggae and rock(mostly early-mid 90s).

Only time I listen to mainstream radio is when I'm driving. From what I hear, I'm not missing much. Real R&B died when it married hip-hop. And I can't take these honey-colored bimbos/himbos wailing over beats I heard in college. Give me a f-cking break.

When it comes to music, it's strictly old skool for me!

All the jazz and Brazilian music I discovered as a teen are still actively part of my music listening experience...

Insofar as my pop/soul leanings, I only listen to those artistst vintage stuff mostly. Prince is a primary example of this. I lost interest in being actively engaged as a fan probably 10 or 15 years ago...and even then I was teetering on the edge of non-interest. You can always get me to listen to 1999 or his b-sides from the 80's, but there's no way on god's green earth you could get me to listen to a travesty like Chaos and Disorder.

Honestly,outside of jazz, classical, Brazilian, the only artist I still ride for from when I was a teen is SADE.


Otherwise since the advent of the internet, I'm always investigating what's new, current, or just slightly under the radar... and generally indie, no matter what the music genre...
