$200,000 white wedding for the 16-year-old girl who lives in a trailer What Daddy's little girl wants, Daddy's little girl gets.
So when Missy Quinn insisted on a big white wedding with her boyfriend, her father said YES. It didn't matter that she was only 16 and the groom 17. Daddy also said yes to a $32,000 wedding dress (which looked suspiciously like a crop top and skirt) and yes to 150 guests at the reception. Then there were the cars, the hotels, the tiara and the $10000 bouquet! Check out the belly-ring ... it matches her earrings! So sophisticated. In the end, making Missy's wedding dreams come true cost her father - who lives in a trailer and surfaces driveways for a living - a whopping $200,000! But as his princess, who hasn't been in a classroom since she was nine and wants to be a glamour model (good luck), posed for photographs, her father Simon, 35, declared it was worth every penny. 'I'm very proud of her today,' he said. Missy was just happy to be the undisputed centre of attention. Her dress, studded with Swarovski crystals, and with a 10 ft. wide train, was so heavy that it took ten guests to help her struggle out of the Rolls-Royce Phantom that brought her to the church. Missy with groom Thomas Moghon, 17, her mother Theresa (who, it seems, forgot to wear a top ...) and father Simon. 'It was huge. I wanted to outdo everyone else's wedding dress,' she said. 'It was extremely heavy and just standing in the church was really difficult. But despite all that, I felt just like Cinderella.' The bill was around five times the cost of the average wedding. Missy said: 'It cost a fortune, but I've always wanted a big wedding and my dad has been saving for ages to pay for it.' Missy met Thomas at Alton Towers Theme park when she was 13. They continued to date despite her traveller family leaving their trailer park in Stoke-on-Trent every summer to tour the UK while Thomas lived with his parents in Wolverhampton . Missy said: 'I just knew he was The One from the beginning. He's perfect.' Her mother Theresa, 33, who married Missy's father at 16, said: 'I was surprised they wanted to get married so young in this day and age. But we could see they were madly in love.' The couple married six days after Missy turned 16 at St Mary's Catholic Church in Congleton-Cheshire. The bride carried a chrystal bouquet that cost $100000! No fresh flowers for her. After the ceremony, guests in feathers and crystals enjoyed champagne and an all-day buffet at the reception. Girls as young as nine showed off bikini tops, high heels and make-up. It was a classy affair. Guest Victoria Docherty, 23, who wore a £700 hotpants and bra outfit, said: 'This isn't unusual - it's just what we do at weddings. It's all very extravagant. Everything is paid for by the bride's daddy.' Missy and Thomas honeymooned in Turkey before moving into their own $36,000 trailer - a wedding gift from her parents.

Seems like they´re Gypsies. I grew up with a couple of Gypsy friends. Their sense of style is rather...hmmmmm.....flamboyant and unique. They sure like excess. Irish Travelers refers to a group of nomadic people that travel around the country offering to do odd jobs but they're usually con artists. They're very common around Texas but Dateline did an expose on them about 10 years ago tracking them all over the US. They showed how they lived very lavish lifestyles and married the girls off really young. They had parties and dressed the girls kinda how they look in this wedding to attract a boy from another family. It was crazy! I hadn't heard of Travelers outside the US but I guess they originated in Europe.

What Is an Irish Traveler?
By Brendan I. Koerner Posted Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at 1:17 PM ET Madelyne Toogood, the woman accused of beating her 4-year-old daughter in an Indiana parking lot, is an "Irish Traveler." What's an Irish Traveler? Irish Travelers, also known as "White Gypsies," are members of a nomadic ethnic group of uncertain origin. Scholars often speculate that they are descended from a race of pre-Celtic minstrels and that their ranks were swelled by displaced farmers during Oliver Cromwell's bloody campaigns of the mid-1600s. Travelers once roamed from town to town in horse-drawn carts, earning their keep by busking and tinsmithing; because of the latter vocation, they were nicknamed "Tinkers," a word that's now considered something of a slur. Modern Travelers in Ireland, who number around 25,000, frequently live in ad-hoc trailer encampments, though some have settled in permanent housing. Though prejudice against Travelers has abated over the years, they are still widely stereotyped as thieves and troublemakers; according to a recent poll, 70 percent of Irish citizens wouldn't accept a Traveler as a friend. A new law which criminalizes trespassing, thus making it easier for police to shut down encampments, has been criticized by Travelers as an attempt to destroy their culture. A few Irish Travelers emigrated to America during the Potato Famine of the mid-19th century. Their 7,000-10,000 descendants still speak the secret Traveler language, a dialect alternately known as Shelta, Gammon, or Cant, which includes elements of Irish Gaelic, English, Greek, and Hebrew. They are also devout Roman Catholics who rarely marry outside the group. Their tightknit, insular clans spend the winters in such sunny locales as White Settlement, Texas, and Murphy Village, S.C., then hit the road come spring. Many U.S.-based Irish Travelers, including Toogood's husband, work as itinerant roofers, pavers, and painters. Police frequently warn the elderly about home-improvement scams operated by a few Irish Travelers. Wandering contractors have been known to charge gullible customers thousands for "sealants" that are nothing more than watered-down lubricant; the con artists quickly leave town once the check is cashed.

Dateline won all kinds of awards for their stories on the Travelers. Lord, I wish I could see that video again. It was like watching the Sopranos but for real.
Here's a description of the stories. "All in the Family" and "Mousetrap" by NBC News Dateline Lea Thompson, Marsha Bartel, Sandra Thomas Surles, Sarah Hodder, Eric Vanderbellen, Seth Karten, Michelle De Long, Therese Hoesli, Marc Rosenwasser, and Neal Shapiro The stories involved a major examination of a secretive group called the Irish Travelers, based in South Carolina. Many members of the group engage in organized crime ranging from swindling elderly people to an attempted multimillion dollar scam at Disney World. Dateline got two insiders to reveal what goes on inside the community. Judges' comments: "In the spirit of Tom Renner, it is appropriate to give Dateline this award. At first glance, it is hard to believe that the Irish Travelers are involved in organized crime. But Dateline expertly showed their wide-ranging web of victims, and it is clear by the end of the piece that the Irish Travelers are a textbook definition of organized crime."
