Seattle Seahawk: Aaron Curry Curry was considered the best player overall in this year's draft, and the safest pick. Seahawks GM Tim Ruskell said before the draft that he wanted to select a player who would make an immediate impact, and Curry seems to fit the bill. The Seahawks have a vacancy at outside linebacker with Julian Peterson traded to Detroit. So Curry can step in and fill the vacant spot at linebacker. Curry was emotional after hearing his name read, and said he'll be a good fit in Seattle's defensive system. "I expect to go in there and really get into a team-oriented franchise, and get into the defense and have some fun and fly around," he said. Curry, 22, was the Butkus Award winner as the best linebacker in the nation last year. At 6-foot-2, 254 pounds, Curry was the fastest linebacker at the combine in Indianapolis, and is expected to be a guy who can play fast and sure tackler who plays well in space. Aaron Curry: "To find out that I was going to be a Seattle Seahawk was one of the best things that I have ever heard." Posted by Danny O'Neil Seattle Times Linebacker Aaron Curry completed a conference call with the reporters here at Seattle's headquarters. He was behind the green room in a quiet room and his excitement came flooding out. "My first talk with coach Mora was today," Curry said. "When they decided they were going to draft me. He seemed like he has a high motor." Was he surprised Seattle picked him? "I was a little surprised, being that I didn't make a visit out there," Curry said. "But I knew they were interested because I worked out with them. I wasn't too surprised because they had just let go Mr. Peterson." "When I first entered Wake Forest, I wanted to be a judge," Curry said. "My aspiration was to be a judge." How much did he weigh when he got to college? "I was about 200 pounds soaking wet after breakfast and lunch," he said. Now Curry weighs more than 250 pounds. Curry said the first thing he would do was buy his mother a house. Will his mom be moving to Seattle? "When I first started this process, she looked at me and said, if you end up in Seattle, there better be a room for me in your house. If there is not a room in your house, there better be an apartment that is within walking distance. Growing up, I've always been a Mama's Boy, and she wants to be able to put here hands on me whenever she can." 2nd round: The Denver Broncos gave up their first round pick in 2010 for Seattle's 37th pick in the second round.

Seahawks trade No. 2 pick for first-rounder in 2010
The Seahawks went into Saturday's draft thinking they could land an intriguing prospect with their second-round selection, but the chance to parlay that pick into a first-round choice next year proved too much to turn down. General manager Tim Ruskell traded Seattle's No. 2 pick -- the 37th player overall --to Denver in exchange for the Broncos' first-round pick in next year's draft. Seattle now will have two first-round picks in 2010. Denver used the 37th pick to take cornerback Alphonso Smith, a teammate of new Seahawks linebacker Aaron Curry at Wake Forest. Seahawks fans might be disappointed at missing out on a quality player in the second round, but it's somewhat stunning to obtain a future first-round pick straight up for a No. 2. Now all Seattle needs to do is root for the Broncos to struggle next year in order to make that pick as high as possible. Seahawks general manager Tim Ruskell said the lure of landing a higher selection next year won out over the chance to immediately add what he felt would likely be a role player coming out of the second round this season. "We really hashed it out and at the end of the day, it tilted toward, OK, this is a No. 1 and that's going to be a little more valuable," Ruskell said. "But that was not an easy decision because there were still some good players (on the board)." If the Seahawks were interested in a wide receiver, a number of top candidates went just prior to Seattle's second pick -- including Ohio State's Brian Robiskie one spot before the Hawks' choice and Hakeem Nicks and Kenny Britt late in the first. Ruskell didn't talk specifics, but acknowledged that a couple of the team's "hot-list" candidates were taken late in the first round. But he said there were still several players the Seahawks coveted available on the board. "Even with that, we just said, weighing everything organizationally, this was the right thing to do," he said. Coach Jim Mora acknowledged that his instinct is always to add talent to his team immediately, but that the trade made perfect sense in the big picture. "The consensus was pretty strong that this was something we have to do," Mora said. "The guys on our short list at that time were all good players, but it was pretty clear to us that was the right way to go." Great move. Lots of QB's available next year. Here's hoping the Orange Crush gets crushed this season. Seahawks land Oregon's Unger with late trade Just when it appeared the Seahawks were done for the day after trading away their No. 2 pick Saturday, general manager Tim Ruskell pulled a switcheroo and dealt with Denver for a lower second-round choice to obtain Oregon center Max Unger. Seattle gave up its third- and fourth-round picks in this year's draft to land Denver's spot in the middle of the second. Unger fills a position of need for Seattle as one of the highly regarded centers in the draft and was one of the players the Seahawks had considered with their No. 37 pick, which they instead dealt to the Broncos for a No. 1 selection in 2010. The two picks the Seahawks gave up are the 68th pick (3rd round) and 105th pick (4th round) in this year's draft, meaning Seattle's next pick will be in the fifth round Sunday. Barring another trade, of course. Unger said he'd been staring at the phone for five straight hours, getting antsy about his situation. When the Seahawks dealt their own second-round pick, he said "I pretty much wrote them off." Instead, the 6-4, 309-pound All-Pac-10 center was pleased to see Seattle turn around and land him later. "I saw myself going maybe a little earlier," said Unger. "But it's worth the wait to go to Seattle. ... I'm so, so happy to be this close to home." Unger, a native of Kona, Hawaii, originally played tackle for the Ducks before moving to center the last two years.at Oregon. He said he considers himself "an inside guy" now and the Seahawks will likely put him in competition with Chris Spencer at the center position.

The Seahawks traded with Chicago to get the 49th overall pick used to select Max Unger, center from Oregon.
The Seahawks gave up their third-round pick, No. 68, and the fourth-round pick, No. 105. That means the Seahawks won't have another pick until the fifth round on Sunday. The trade was not with the Broncos as initially indicated, but with the Bears.

Well I'm breathing a bit easier....first, the Hornets actually remembered they were in the playoffs and won....then the Saints picked the guy we ABSOLUTELY had to have (as much as I don't like OSU, Malcolm Jenkins was definitely needed). But I just read a blog entry on ESPN.com that said the Saints were ready to trade next year's #1 pick to N.E. to move back into the first round to get Beanie Wells...so now, I'm wondering if I should be pissed that they didn't pull off the trade..... He was like a cock who thought the sun had risen to hear him crow.

Good move to stay put. We don't need any more dumb ass teams giving new england high picks. Damn they already had 4 of the first 58. As for the saints, they got to keep drafting defense early. Their defense especially the air patrol was horrible last season. They can get another back in the later rounds like james davis out of clemson or arian foster from tennessee. Don't laugh at my funk

Their first pick which was in the third round they netted a defensive lineman that was said to be high on teams list after the combine named jerron gilbert out of san diego state. Some mock drafts projected him to be a 2nd rounder. Didn't pay attention to the bears whole draft. Don't laugh at my funk

Oh please. At least with Kornheiser you were getting some funny stories. Now it is back to the old dry commentary. I am sorry but Gruden is not an upgrade. They might has well throw Dennis Miller's punk #$@ back in the both. “When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint.
