I didn't hear a single mention of god in her response. Did she say it somewhere else in the show? Or are you assuming that's the subtext? Otherwise how can you call her a hypocrite?

She said it in her response....here is the link to the vid...judge for yourself!

Wow, she brought God into it later. Interesting that she doesn't back down, but goes even further upon questioning.

Then she speaks about teaching young people to never compromise themselves. I wonder if she can truly say that running for Miss USA is not compromising herself in any way?

Okay, I think it's time to take that microphone away from her now.

And yet, for me, I prefer difference of opinion, and the ability to express it. That's called free speech. I inherently value free speech more than I value people agreeing with me.

For instance, Miss California can express an opinion. And then lots of other people can differ. All the gnarly stuff gets exposed and slowly we move toward the truth. It's a cool system!

This isn't about me or anyone freaking out about anything Ms. Vapid said or didn't say...I don't give a rats ass that she said what she said.....seriously....but I also know that, like I said, if you have to warn folks that you're about to offend them, then what you're about to say really doesn't need to be said because it's likely going to be OFFENSIVE!!

....as far as gnarly stuff being exposed and moving towards truth, I counter that your position is awfully naive at best. People have been pointing out all kinds of "gnarly" stuff for a long time, yet nothing of substance has changed....if you don't believe me, take a gander in cyberspace....look at some of the vile shit that's being said about the President of the United States...not because of his performance, but because of his race...take into account the rising recruitement and membership in racist and supremecist groups and your "gnarly stuff getting exposed" arguement kinda goes out of the window...but I digress....I certainly give her credit for "speaking her heart...but I'm also not going to feel like she got shafted...because IMHO, as with most of the "christians" that I've come across, she's picking and choosing when and where to invoke her "god"...because in some of the "sects" of "christianity", her walking on stage in a bikini is a hell-worthy offense...

I just think her use of "no offense to anyone" was fucking hilarious. lol

And then when she tried to explain it on the Today Show, she basically said, "Well, I said 'no offense'".

The term 'no offense' should be immediately barred from ever being used.

I don't know if I would classify that as homophobia though, Carrie. It was her view on "marriage". It sounds like I'm defending the hell out of her, which I'm not. Just saying. You don't have to be labeled homophobic to not AGREE with homosexuality.

The "no offense" part isn't as horrible in my book either. Again, ignorant, but it sounds like she meant "I'm sorry if MY VIEW offends you, because you clearly disagree with me, but this is how I feel and this is why..." I don't view that as evil as it's being portrayed. At the end of the day, she's a beauty contestant, and the fact that I have to hear them speak is ridiculous anyway. lol

I personally am not offended if a gay man says to me "no offense, but I think marriage should be between two men". Maybe this comes from me being a part of the majority, but it just doesn't scream "HURTFUL" in my eyes. shrug

Let me restate what my brain was originally thinking... just because someone has an opposing view on the institution of marriage they shouldn't be (automatically) labeled homophobic. That represents what I'm trying to say more accurately.

If you don’t believe gays should be afforded the same rights as straight people whether that be marriage/civil unions or job protection or whatever, that’s homophobia. If you believe gays are anything less than absolutely equal to everyone else, that’s homophobia. Not "agreeing" with homosexuality IS homophobia.

My question is, is what President Obama says at the beginning of this video:

http://www.youtube.com/wa...6K9dS9wl7U

just as offensive as what Carrie said?

He says: "I believe marriage is the union between a man and a woman."

I believe what they both said are equally offensive. both said essentially the same thing. The president had time to fully elaborate on his views though. Is the president a homophobe?

I don't believe he truly believes that but that he says that because it is not politically expedient for him to support gay marriage. I don't think he has a real problem with it, just dealing with political reality.

Article from CNN by Roland S. Martin:

http://www.cnn.com/2009/P...index.html

Here's a part of it pointing out the hypocrisy:
What's interesting about this is that many of the same folks who are slamming her for her remark voted for President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, who both have the same belief: that marriage should be between a man and a woman.

Even Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made it clear that she has the same view, and it was her husband, President Bill Clinton, who signed the In Defense of Marriage Act, the federal law that forbids states from having to recognize gay marriage in other states.

In other words, four of the biggest liberals in the country have the same belief as Prejean, but a beauty pageant winner is being torn to shreds. Hello, hypocrisy!

I'm thinking the same thing. Let's be consistent in our condemnations.

Another part:

Sure, Prejean could have gone the safe route and given one of those answers that reveal nothing and is hard to decipher -- you know, the ones politicians give all the time -- but no! She actually gave her real opinion, and is now being torn to shreds for it.

Yes! She gave an answer at least. During the presidential debates on both sides, so many times they just avoided the question by saying a whole lot of BS.

Nearly the whole Democratic party does it and I can't say that it doesn't bother me. However, I have much better odds with Barack Obama than I ever could with Sarah Palin, John McCain and the entire Republican party.

One day my party will be able to stand firmly on the subject, in the meantime I will continue to chip away and allow the subject of gay rights to stealthily be supported by someone like our President.

In her interviews she keeps mentioning her answer comes "from the heart". That remark is what bothers me. That she believes "in her heart" that Gay couples do not deserve the recognition of Marriage and all the rights it entails. A woman like her who probably had dozens of Gays design her clothes, do her makeup, hair, how to walk the runway, etc., basically helped her put her where she is at now, still believes this, because it's not "biblecally correct" baffles me.

Maybe if she can see the lives of hundreds of Gay Couples throughout the world and see that we go through all the same problems that Straights do,like paying the mortgae, raising children, it will change her perspective.I can only hope. neutral

She's a princess who has been put on a pedestal because of her looks. She only has to consider herself and she will skate through this life with the easiest of ease. Too bad she can't face the many gay people who helped her in one way or another to get to where she is now.

of course you did. Marriage comes with rights, responsibilities and benefits that are only afforded through marriage. Support a ban on equality, you support the denial of rights confered to straight people.
