I used to have twists which I intended to grow out into dreads. I liked the look, but didn't like the upkeep so I ended up just shaving my head.

You know, speaking of hair. This reminds me of an experience I witnessed on a city bus with two white women. One had curly hair, the other had her cut short, but it was straight.

There was this older white, woman with the straight, short cut hair sitting next to a brunette with very curly long hair. The the older white lady, kept turning and looking at this brunette sitting next to her, then all of a sudden out of the blue she said to the brunette: "You know, you should cut your hair"so the brunette looked at her and said "Excuse me??"; Then the older white woman said in.. "You should cut your hair, because it's curly and doesn't look very clean that way" Then the brunette looked at her and said "You..&_)(*)(&()&)&)(*&)(&*...and )*_+(*__&^&^*..and you should mind your damn business b*tch!"

The brunette told this woman off, and everyone on the bus couldn't get over how what that woman blurted out the the brunette. First of all, there was nothing wrong with the brunette's hair for that woman to insult her like that. It was hilarious, but at the same time a little crazy. lol

I'm growing my hair out and I'm loving it!

Right now I got this SPACE AFRO thing going on [that's what I call it] and I love it. It's nappy, it's spikey and it has a Lenny Kravitz, DL Hughley meets Jimi Hendrix look to it. I've been growing my afro since late last summer and it's brownish-reddish and spikey. I wanna do like Jimi Hendrix and tie a headband and strings in my hair. I did it last night with a neon glow necklace [the kind they throw out @ parties and raves] and I think it's awesome.

- That is great!

Thank you! I've gotten more complements on my hair this way than I EVER did with just some everyday, conservative hairstyle. Nappy/natural hair brings out my unique/individual qualities and it just brings out my clothing and my personal style. I POP when I wear it.

Love the language of your hair.

disbelief I hate my straight hair, that's why I curl it. Why should straight hair be cleaner than not straight hair nuts?

lol I have no idea why that woman just blurted that out. But the brunette did not take it lightly and she was right to put that woman in her place. I mean how do you just out of the blue say something like that to someone you don't even know, and to say it anyway was rude? It was ridiculous. Everyone on the bus was shocked when she said it, and you could hear a pin drop, because we were in shock at what came out that woman's mouth. I guess all eyes was on the brunette, waiting for her response back to that lady, but yeah, the lady with the curly hair told the lady off and she was right to do so.

Does anyone feel pressure from their office workplace (or maybe even school atmosphere) to "tame" their hair?

Not that I could ever grow locks like that, but even I feel pressure to keep the hair short 'n shit.
