I think so too! They showed a great clip of it on Ellen and I was floored at how she transformed into Little Edie! Ellen said right then and there that Drew is definitely going to take home an Emmy this year for her performance.

...I'm bummed because I don't have satelite tv (which can get you American HBO in Europe) sad

I wear that outfit every day! What could be more brilliant than the best costume for the day?

just got done watching it... sooooo good.

i was really very pleasantly suprised. barrymore and lange give incredible performances, and the script is divine, even if it did make me think of the documentary every time a real beale line was moved to a different scene.

Loved it, even if I'm not quite sure what the point of doing it was. It was a fantastic showcase for the performers, but I don't think it added anything. Still, I think Drew Barrymore deserves an Emmy nomination at the very least.

And if I were Jessica Lange, I would hire the makeup artist for this movie and keep him/her on staff. Lange is so Botoxed that she can barely wink her eye, but the makeup artist made her look fantastic.

well, it isn't going to replace the documentaries, but it serves as a nice companion piece, particularly in explaining the depth of the history in a way the doc can't.

much better than the musical, too.

i couldn't stop thinking about this clip from the second documentary during it:

Storywise, I thought the musical was better. But don't get me wrong; I REALLY enjoyed this movie and am so impressed with both actresses. However, the coda at the end (before the credits) where Big Edie tells Little Edie to go to the premiere--that rang false to me, and that kind of sums up my big problem with the movie. The material didn't rise to the talent. And not only the amazing talent of the actresses--the makeup artists and set designers knocked it out of the park on this one.

But I should also say that I have had way too many cocktails at this point. What does my drunk ass know? Maybe I should wait to see what I think of the movie tomorrow. biggrin

I just drank Tanqueray and tonics. I can't really find a tie-in, but I like 'em a lot, and that seemed to be good enough. I'd love to come up with a new drink, maybe a special martini, and call it the Marble Faun. That would be a good drink for Grey Garden party. Speaking of which, there was no Marble Faun in this new movie! That ain't right.

How did GG look? I've never been there.

I haven't checked out the Maysles theater yet either but keep meaning to. I live near it.

You're right, that girl has really come full circle. Her production company is truly a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood as well.

Probably my favorite documentary ever (the original). EVER.

I can't wait to see this, I might have to order HBO just for it.

Give her the Emmy now.
