Texting another country Is there a long distance charge, even when you have a plan? I just got a text from my brother from his US number (323 area code). Is it better for me to text him on his CDN number when he is in the US or should I text the US one? Or does it even matter?

It does depend on your plan - read your fineprint - I have 35 cent international and 15 cent local texts on mine, and then it depends on your friend's phone company. I can't text sextonseven for example, but CAN text Jami0mckay.

So I text US number and get dinged or text CDN number while he is there and he gets dinged? Is that how it works? No matter what, someone pays more?

good question if his # is international (extra 00s) despite his proximity, I think YOU get dinged either way, but I could be wrong

It's not an international number...just a US number.
I want to know! | |

The plan may be different because you are in Canada. I don't get charges when I text there. But on international texts, I get hit sending or receiving.

It's been a long time since I sent one, but I was never charged for sending or receiving... It really depends on your plan and carrier. |

Who are you with? We're both with Bell. Sasktel check Bell's website but I doubt there will be. anywhere else and all bets are off... although I didn't have any extra charge to eikonoklast either.

Normally for you then if you text/call his Canadian number then you would pay the normal rate as it is a CDN to CDN transaction and he would pay the international part of the charge. If you text his US number or call it then you are making an international call and would be charged extra where as he would just be charged the normal reception on a call fee or loss of minutes as he is in "home" country.

dork from bell's site: ...[text plan] when you communicate with friends and family within Canada, or from Canada to the U.S. There are no long distance fees, so it's easy to stay in touch. oh and happy birthday
