I bet a million bucks they'll say something stupid like you're obsessed with Julie Andrews and yodeling. You'd loose that bet. I am quite sure they won't say that . I never heard one single mention about "The Sound Of Music" in the German media ever in my life ! But please ask them, I'd be interested to hear what they'd have to say . I meant the stupid Americans would say that.

The beautiful town of Tüblingen, which was spared of Allied bombing during WWII because it didn't have any industry. So the streets are pre-WWII and original.
The city is compared mainly to cambridge, England, and though I give Cambridge the nod here for it's museums and nightlife, Tüblingen is more picturesque in places. This is my crotch.

Serious said: Imago said: But sexiness factor aside, the country is beautiful.
What impresses me the most is how much the people here love their land. There are trails everywhere here through grassy hillsides and forested places. It's not unusual to walk for a couple of kilometers in a forested trail to come upon a really nice playground and picnic area in the middle of nowhere with a beautiful view of some distant village. It's gorgeous here. So you Americans don't have that ? We only have them in our natural parks. But America is a huge place, so I can't speak for anything but the deep south and Florida

It is regretted that I must now make my way to the airport for the flight home.
I really needed this trip, and had a wonderful time with my family, old friends, and new muffins. Is it strange that I feel more at home in other countries than my own? At any rate, thanks for putting up with my self-indulgent thread ....next trip in 2 weeks...pix forthcoming

Freudian slip Babydubistzuschnell: I LOVE Stuttgart, though it's more about the surrounding towns combined with the actual city than the city itself. The city is actually ho-hum visually. They went the 'Frankfurt' route when rebuilding after WWII instead of the Munich Route. Garmische is a ski town an hour south of Munich in Southern Bavaria. The Zugsitz (sp?) is in Garmische. Here's a photo I took in 2007

They all hate Bush, but like Americans despite. I found making friends to be rather easy. Nowhere near as friendly as the Welsh, but definitely a warm place.

They don't link us all together, but generally Hamburg is on the snobbish side...towards anyone. The reputation of the people here is rather cool. But once you're engaged in conversation with people, and they see that you're a rational person with some degree of intelligence, they open right up, and become more friendly. St.Georg is a former run down neighborbood of working class Turks (and er, the occasional Islmic extremist faction) which has now been overrun, bought out and becoming steadily re-gentrified by the fashion photography, and GLT community with an abundance of club, sushi bars, and tiny atelier/boutiques. In this neighborhood, the Turkish famer's markets, the chic minimalist cafes, the Islamic mosques, and the gay leather bondage shops all exist right next to each other like one big happy family ..and the best part of it is, with this kind of configuration, there's a fine man there for EVERYBODY, no matter what your demographic
