There is a huge difference between not being into (gay) marriage for yourself and being opposed to gays having the right to marry if they so choose to do so.

So which did he mean?

Part of me says, our partnership is 12 years strong and we didn't need a piece of paper or anyone declaring us anything to achieve that.

Regardless of whether it's for me/us or not, we should have the right.

i don't even remember where that piece of trailer trash came from. he is so mean and hateful sometimes and not in an amusing way either.

this morning i saw what he did/said regarding miss california...disgusting. he ASKED her what her opinion was on gay marriage. she answered honestly and, while i completely disagree with her, she has every right to feel entitled to HER OWN opinion. the way tried to humiliate her for answering his question is disgraceful.

i guess he thought she would feel required to provide the answer the judge (himself in this case) would want to hear and it didn't work out that way. i later heard him saying she had no right to bring her politics to the pageant and she shuld have left her politics at home. um...excuse me? you ASKED her a political question!! if you didn't leave YOUR politics at home, why should she feel obliged to?

seriously, i think he did an incredible disservice to the gay community with this mess. we shouldn't be furthering a divide, we should be trying to bridge the gap in order to get those votes next time around! what a fucking asshole.

clapping well said.

I thought he would expect her to answer the way she did but when he told matt laur that she basically should have given a bullshit answer to appease gay folk ( in other words lie about what she really felt) i thought not only is he discriminating against her for her beliefs but he's saying that gays should be told whatever makes them feel good. isn't that what politicians do to the masses? tell us what we want to hear then do the exact opposite? on his blogs he's been calling her half brain, dumb bitch, bimbo etc and for a gay man like femmed out perez to insult a woman he doesn't even know using that type of language is unacceptable to me.

I saw part of his interview on Larry King. He said a good answer would have been, "that should be something for the state to decide"...

That would have been a complete BS answer... Of course it is for the state to decide... we already know that. How does that answer the question??? The freaking question was, "should other states follow suit?" There are basically two answers... yes or no. anything else is avoiding the question.

"Should other states decide to allow gay marriage?"

"That is for the state to decide".

lol

he asked her what SHE thought...then criticizes her for not answering with a different, insincere response. what a total douchebag.

and all he's doing is fanning the flames. in a battle like we've got (gays, that is), a little diplomacy might go a looooong way. maybe insulting people for their views is NOT the most beneficial and productive way to go? maybe we don't want to keep everyone on the defensive?

again, what a complete fucking asshole he is. he just gave every person who is opposed to gay marriage even more reason to be against it.

Exactly. This is why govt needs to get the hell out of marriage. Why does government give monogomous sexual relationships, straight or gay, special rights? It is inherently discriminatory.

where's the special rights tho? my straight married friends claim they pay more taxes or some shit. and once they get divorced, they inherit one another's debt whether it was incurred during or after the marriage. maybe it's a state thing. better to be married in some states and not in others? the only benefit to marriage is if ur spouse dies then you collect their retirement and social security...at least that's what I've been told.

applaud him for what?! for making gay people look bad? he asked her a political question and didn't like her answer..so he says she should have left her politics at home AND then proceeds to call her a dumb bitch and a cunt? right, cuz that's gonna help the matter. he's a loser who owes all of his success to the success of the people he gossips about and he has the nerve to call someone else a dumb bitch? shit, at least she got where she's at on her own and not by leeching onto the success of others.

he disgusts me. until gay people STOP preaching to the choir and start trying to diplomatically reach out to those who oppose gay marriage, we are gonna be in for long, uphill battle.

he deserves no applause. if anything, he deserves a punch in his fat gut.

he was right to ask the question and give low marks for the answer. the other behavior he didn't need to do but it's Perez most mainstream media don't use his as a reflection on gay people.

1) if he was right to ask the question, she was right to answer it honestly
2) this has been all over the morning talk shows, watched mostly by middle america housewives who also happen to be primarily conservative. this is another negative portrayal of gays for them to argue their case with.

NOT EVERYONE lives in a major city with a ton of gay acquaintances. why don't gay folk GET this? his behavior regarding her answer is a poor reflection on gay people and not AT ALL helpful to gaining the vote from these people.

Conditioned. Programmed, like many people in this country, to go against their own best interests. It's not uncommon.

or on the other hand, he could be so deep into a radical anti-assimilationist point of view that he thinks any same-sex couple that wants to get married are just trying to fit some self-loathing heterocentric model of what a family should be. i know people like that.
