Didn't you ask him? Why? Many straight men are not into marriage either. Just saying

I don't know how much I'm into it for myself. I'm all for it for others, though.

He said it because it was how he felt. Do all gay people have to feel the same way? The Normal Whores Club

Not all Gay people want marriage for themselves, but I'm sure the majority of all Queer folk support the people who want it.

You should ask his reasons. There could be any number of them -- religious, political, etc. And he's entitled to his own opinion. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I'm for it. I'm also for the right to get married. Even in the gay community there are different opinions on this issue. Part of me says I'd do it (and not just cuz johnart loves an excuse to plan a party).
Part of me says, our partnership is 12 years strong and we didn't need a piece of paper or anyone declaring us anything to achieve that. Regardless of whether it's for me/us or not, we should have the right.

Does he mean marriage generally or was he speakin of the whole Prop 8 thing? Like the right for gays to get married? I swear the words "HATER" is wayyy over-rated...smh

Regardless of whether it's for me/us or not, we should have the right. it's difficult for me to reconcile the assimilationist "i want a tasteful photo album and a framed professionally shot photograph" part of me with the radical queer "marriage is for sissies, let's go pierce something" part of my brain. but while i'm working all that mental mess out, i'm all for other people doing what they feel honors their relationships. why not?

I say skip the tasteful photo album and professional shots and get a tattoo or spend the money on a wonderful getaway (which is what I opted for). I also say any adult should be allowed to marry whoever they damn well please.

Conditioned. Programmed, like many people in this country, to go against their own best interests. It's not uncommon. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

i guess the point should be he doesn't have to be into it. nobody except the people who would choose to marry need be into it. this is why the argument against gay marriage always falls apart: not into it? don't do it. An individualist is a man who lives for his own sake and by his own mind; he neither sacrifices himself to others nor sacrifices others to himself...

Being into it for yourself and selfishly carrying your personal distaste over into standing on the side against the others in the community are 2 different things. Gays aren't required to want to get married but to side with those who want to deny our equal rights is evil. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Didn't you ask him? Why? Many straight men are not into marriage either. Just saying Exactly. Just because the dude is gay, doesn't mean that he has to be into the gay marriage thing. That is his choice. “When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a Communist.” Brazilian bishop Dom Hélder Câmara

Not being into the marriage thing shouldn't mean that he sides with the evil assholes who are hellbent on denying those gay couples who want to marry that right though. Wonder if he's in that camp. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

There is a huge difference between not being into (gay) marriage for yourself and being opposed to gays having the right to marry if they so choose to do so.
So which did he mean? | |
