Parents: Has your child ever cursed at you? How did you handle it? Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. ~Berthold Auerbach

No. Not yet. I hope it never happens. But, I've learned to never say never.

you know what's weird? my mom cussed like a sailor around me from the time i was a little kid, but i never had the slightest desire to cuss in front of her, even when i was a fully grown adult. the idea of doing it just felt gross and wrong. i know a lot of friends who don't have that hang-up and are all like, "oh dude i have a casual relationship with my parents, we're all adults", etc., but you know what? i like having borders and boundaries and a sense of my parents being My Parents instead of my poker buddies. i guess that's just me, though.
.org parents: when your kids grow up, will it weird you out if they cuss in front of you?

I sat him down talked to him aboout what it means to respect your parents and elders. The lecture included the 4th Commandment regardng repect and that if you don't, you shorten your own life and miss out on blessings God would hav you to have in life. Whether you agree or not, I told him would be chosing eating a bar of lye soap or my fist. I haven't had to make good on this promise. Prince's Sarah

.org parents: when your kids grow up, will it weird you out if they cuss in front of you? I have cussed in front of my kids... when talking to adult friends. I call it "grown folks talk". My kids (18,8,&6) all know not to repeat my foul language. I teach them that I am being rude and vulgar when I speak that way. I never cuss at my children, and I don't allow them to cuss at each other not even say things like "shut-up" or "I hate you"... you'll get in big trouble for that. My 18yr. old will not cuss in front of me, if he did (out of frustration about being wronged or hurt) I would have compassion. If he cussed just to mess around, he knows I would be disappointed since I told him I think he's too intelligent to carry on that way.

See I did the soap thing once, dishsoap actually. I put some on my finger, and shoved it in his mouth, but I was really at my wits end when i did that. He told someone at his after school program, and CPS showed up to talk to me,because apparentely your not allowed to do that anymore. That's how I was raised, and I never would have thought to swear at my parents or within ear shot of them. I hate to hear children cursing! It's like a bit of their innocence is ripped away and they are already becoming angry adults. If you will, so will I

No, she is only six, but goes through phases in her life. Lately she has been calling everyone "cuckoo". My husband is the only one who can't stand it. Everyone else ignores it.

I am not really bothered about this, I hope to educate the little man to know when he can/cannot use the odd expletive rather than ban them completely.
Granted, a four year old telling his mother to go fuck herself is not apropriate and i hope that with proper guidance my son never does. He said "I'm gonna kick your ass" the other day (in his imaginary play world - probably to some baddy or other) and we had to have a chat, but he claimed to understand that it was not apropriate and hasn't said it again since. I would rather he knew that we know, and feel free to talk about it rather than think it is completely taboo. He will get exposed to it as soon as he starts primary school so better he is prepared IMHO. Happy is he who finds out the causes for things.Virgil (70-19 BC). Virgil was such a lying bastard!

well, i like to think that anyone who has ever had a parent can probably share a good perspective on how they feel about parenting...but i try not to be presumptuous about it...

Never.
Even my 21 yr old will get in trouble for cursing while telling a story when I am around. It shows a lack of respect. Peace. Love. Prince

Ummm heck NO!
I couldn't even say "dang" or roll my eyes to my mom. Those were considered offensive and disrespectful. I knew better not to curse at her.
