Who's down with The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency???

I'm loving this show, Jill Scott, Anika Noni Rose, all the wacky characters, the beautiful landscape of Botswana, and just everything about it. mushy

Did any of you read the books?

I'm curious about why they added the gay character when it wasn't in the book, according to my friend who read the books, and homosexuality is definitely not accepted throughout Africa. Seems odd to just throw a gay character in there. hmmm

Anyway, great show, great acting, hilarious/interesting storylines. Looks like HBO has done it again. thumbs up!

I've only seen the Pilot/movie. I don't have HBO and I've been trying to find a place to catch the episodes. It is so good. And Botswana is definitely on my list of places to visit.

I hadn't heard of the books, but now I want to read them.

I saw Ms. Scott in a 2004 Showtime original movie called, Cavedwellers, starring Kevin Bacon, his wife Kyra Sedgwick, and Aidan Quinn. Scott was absolutely wonderful so, I was kinda surprised by her underwhelming acting in Mr. Perry "shit".. will put. Anyone who wants a serious career in films, should avoid that mans movies like the plague.

Pretty much, he not only allows over-acting, I think he encourages it.

Love Jilly in this! Her and lil Annika Noni rose are tearin' it up with their Bostwana accents! Totally irrelevant of me to say, but watching these sistas really makes me wish Beyonce would stop making my eyeballs itch every time she atempts to be a serious screen actress. The camera works wonderfully with Scott and I'm sorry we haven't gotten to her in even more film vehicles with even more multi-dimensional charcters. Honestly, I would be more than happy to do with one less film where a singer gets to play a shadow of herself onscreen, um, singing. twocents

The books are wonderful. The series, while entertaining, isn't really up their level (thus far).

i have seen the piolt and the first four episodes, the characterisation and the whole vibe of the books is definately beginning to come through smile

book adaptation to film or television seldom works but this seems to be getting there

ohhh, we haven't got to this bit here in Blighty, can't wait!!
biggrin

One of the guys at work has been on at me about the books for ages, still haven't read them, but I just happened to be flicking channels and saw the pilot on the Beeb and I seen Jill (Who is one of my favourite singers) so I thought I would give a look and I loved it. Watch it every Sunday now.

Does Idris play the male detective that steals her clients, cause I think he shows up in next weeks epi?

I saw the second episode last night. Better - an hour is just the right length. (The pilot - at two hours - dragged a bit.) cool
