I've never seen that before! may be an upstate NY thing... not sure if PETA would approve. It's a Polish tradition. We have a HUGE Polish population in Western NY. I know that one is from the Broadway Market because it has a red sash and a Alleluia banner. Other ones have a white sash. I live with a Polish person and Easter is a big deal. They make tons of homemade sausage and pierogies and other food. It all goes to church to be blessed by the priest. Even all the chocolate. I am going to be 10lbs heavier by the end of Dyngus Day. I'm all ready for Dyngus Day with my pussy willows, but I've been told the guys have super soakers so I don't think I'll win that one. The Broadway Market is wonderful before Easter. I've never seen that before! may be an upstate NY thing... not sure if PETA would approve. We have them in Detroit too - it's an Eastern European thing. I guess it depends on if you've got a large population in the city you live in (we do here). We've always had one at Easter - my family is Hungarian. They represent the "lamb of God" who takes away the sins of the world. They're so adorable! Look at this one! We usually get these (although, this year I didn't buy one I hope my sister got it.) It's almost worth going through our winters to get Easter. It is a lovely holiday here. I went to the Broadway market this morning for a few last things. You could hardly walk for all the people. I think I saw butter lambs at Tops the other day. "Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind"-Dr Seuss

well, here is how wrong i was They have a huge butter sculpture every year at the NY State Fair in Syracuse. They've been doing it for 40 years. Last year it was a 900lb sculpture of the cow jumping over the moon. "Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind"-Dr Seuss

here we go! THIS is more like!!!!!
at first i wanted to create something ginormous, something massively significant that would make everyone in here stand up and take notice, something that would leave my mark on the world. i wanted to make a butter sculpture to end all butter sculptures, and launch myself in one smooth master stroke into the ranks of the butter sculpture professionals. make them positively DROOL with envy at my style, sheer novice talent and dedication to this worthy cause. but THEN i re-thought my approach, i realized that sometimes simplicity is the best way to go, and that the understated can pack just as potent a wallop as the flamboyant. sometimes it's the whisper that we hear best, instead of the shout. sometimes when we speak softly, and carry a big stick of butter, we draw more attention to ourselves than we do if we scream and dance around, waving the butter overhead wrapped in an american flag, or any other flag for that matter. so i thought and i thought and i sketched and i drew and i molded and i shaped and by golly i think it came out pretty dang cool! just take a look at this, my friends: oh. crap, it melted while i was typing. .
