My son recently got hit by a car and was lucky to survive and we just received a fine in the mail for $60 for obstructing the driver .Could anybody else tell me if somebody got a fine after being hit by a car.

I would say sorry for your son but there sounds like there is a whole heap more to the story that "he just got hit by a car"

I have respect for some police officers - I know several good ones

my son is one ...

I also know some do not deserve as much respect

Humans are like that - some are respectful and earn that in return

Mach hit the nail on the head, some deserve respect, some don't but when people lump all of them into one group; well, thats just shitty...everybody wants the police to do their job unless it adversely affects them, then they want some leiniency...generally cops don't issue fines/tickets without some hint of a reason...as with most ticketed offenses, you probably have the option to go to court; if you feel that strongly about it, plead your/his case...

people are in accidents all the time, some with serious injury...the extent of injury doesn't have any bearing on whether or not a person is obligated for their wrong doing in an accident...

the police can only ticket/fine you for laws that are already on the books...they certainly dont make the laws...that's up to the municipality in which they work (which vary from state to state, city to city)...if you feel the reason your son was fined is bogus, then your best bet would be to go to court AND contact local government officials...with no more information than what you've given in your post, especially considering your son was 'lucky to survive', I'd say the cop was just doing his job...
