Woman calls 911 over lack of shrimp in fried rice http://news.yahoo.com/s/a..._on_shrimp
Woman calls 911 over lack of shrimp in fried rice Wed Apr 8, 12:58 am ET HALTOM CITY, Texas – A woman called 911 to report she didn't get as much shrimp as she wanted in her fried rice at a Texas restaurant. Haltom City police on Tuesday released the taped emergency call, in which the customer is heard telling the dispatcher, "to get a police officer up here, what has to happen?" The customer also says: "He didn't even put extra shrimp in there." The upset customer had left the Fort Worth-area restaurant when an officer arrived Monday afternoon. Restaurant workers say the woman had been denied a refund after leaving with her order, then returning to complain. Cook June Lee says nothing was wrong with the meal, and that "some customers are happy. Some are not." "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

I would have had her arrested on GP - anyone who calls 911 because there's not enough shrimp in her fried rice is not playing with a full deck. Then during the time she spent locked up, I would have her write the words "NOT ENOUGH SHRIMP IN YOUR FRIED RICE IS NOT A GOOD REASON TO CALL 911" about, oh say, a million times. She would be released after she finished writing.

If you want to keep a happy customer, give them what they've ask for. 911 was unnecessary, but it looks bad for their business. [Edited 4/10/09 8:54am]

[Edited 4/10/09 8:54am] The customer is not always right. In fact, sometimes the customer is an idiot who deserves to be beaten with blunt objects and not given extra shrimp. This business got the money and services was not rendered. This could have been worked out by providing the customer with the extra shrimps requested. If you have to charge extra, let the customer know. If you cannot provide extra shrimps, let them know that, too. Some businesses operate with the attitude of you pay me and go, no questions asked. Not every customer is right, I'll grant you that, but read what this cook said about their services: Cook June Lee says nothing was wrong with the meal, and that "some customers are happy. Some are not." How can she/he speak for you or me? There is a fifty percent chance of good or lousy service, from what I'm reading. This probably happened to them so they can improve their customer service. No business operates 100 percent, but this one needs improvement. The woman was just more verbal and more extreme about it.

The article doesn't say that this customer had actually paid for extra shrimp. In which case she shouldn't have expected them -they'd only be coming if the cook felt like it. I am so tired of shithead customers and people who defend their behaviour. There was no excuse for calling 911 over some shrimp, and this woman deserves to be slapped for doing it. Or at least a hefty fine for wasting the dispatcher's and the police's time. EVEN IF she had actually ordered extra shrimp, she's still a shithead who deserves an arrest or fine for this behaviour. Even if she was owed a refund, she was clearly in the wrong here. [Edited 4/10/09 13:50pm] "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

Exactly. Why was she not arrested? It says she left the restaurant before police arrived. If she was using a cell phone I suppose they could track her down based on who the phone belongs to, but that'd be wasting even more police time so they probably won't bother. I certainly did not, and you're right. There is more to this story, but I still say this: The situation could have worked out easily over some food that would only digest and pass through the drought.

Kinda related... my father took his toaster back to Argos with a piece of burnt toast to get his money back. He also wrote to a company about their ready-made meatball meal that had grossly misrepresented its number of meatballs on the picture.
I've got to say in both cases he was spot on though.

I like that. That's an old skool type of punishment that used to get the message across about foolishness back in my day. If we had more kids doing that today(barging into their video game twitter and shopping time, Gawd forbid) maybe we we wouldn't have them waisting time like this as adults The message is: ....oh you want to act a fool over some silliness about some rice? And abuse services for people in actual need? Ummmm, okay...let's go sit your lil' ass down here in some type of confinement, since you don't have the good sense to not infringe upon others' time, and help you to re-prioritize what it means to use... and abuse 911. I bet she'd get that message right quick.
