Tea is very common among the West Indian culture in the Caribbean (for ages).

I've been drinking Green Tea for 4 years. Lemon, Red, Raspberry Zinger, Peppermint, Mint tea, Iced tea, Green Ginger Tea (w/soymilk). My Mom used to give me and my siblings regular tea (Lipton and Tetleys) with milk when we were kids. Many herb teas in the Caribbean are used for medicinal reasons as well.

The History of Tea: The Tea Story:

"Little did Chinese Emperor Shen Nung realize that in 2737 B.C., when dried leaves blew into his cup of hot water, the beverage he discovered would cause sensations around the world. During this time, water was always boiled for hygienic reasons. The pleasant aroma and refreshing taste enchanted him and soon everyone in the realm was drinking tea."

Sermwanderer was right. We are all half-English, no matter what our ethnic background is. I don't know anyone who doesn't drink tea, but I know lots of people that won't touch coffee.

I was drinking bush tea when I was there. At first I was hesitant, but it tasted really good.

My favourite tea is South African Rooibos tea. I don't drink tea that often though.

And I am posting even though I am not American wink

Overall I'd say it still isn't the common thing as way more people drink coffee. But as this thread attests to, there are some devoted followers.

Maybe because it's so often social? We're nto a big "tea party" lot over here, but there is that good ol' Canadian institution, Tim Horton's.

Timmy's brand mint tea is amazing. love

I've heard of bush tea, but never drank it. May be called by another name in different parts of the Caribbean. I've never heard of South African Rooibos tea at all though, judging by that name, I guess that's a tea from out of South Africa?

My mom used to also take the mint leaves she grew in her yard, wash them real well then boil them for tea. Ginger root (the plant itself) is another one. It's good for coughs/chest colds. Also makes a great tea.

I don't think there's a day that goes by that I don't drink an herb tea. I love tea, hot or cold.

I am not even sure if the bush tea I drank was the tea which is usually refered to by that name. The guy I was staying with had run out of tea and got that plant/herb from the bush (rain forest) and made tea with it and said it was called bush tea. Like I said I was really hesitant to drink it at first, but it tasted better than the Lipton tea we drank the next days after he had gone shopping for new tea lol.

nod You can buy Rooibos tea in Europe too these days, but it is from South Africa and I first drank it when I was there. It is really popular there. It's not a "real" tea as far as I know or at least that's what I had been told in South Africa.

Oh okay... lol But for the bush tea, seems logical that he called it bush tea, since he pulled it from a bush and was not aware of the name of it at the time. lol But anyway, I love all kinds of different teas, very relaxing, especially before going to bed and a hot cup of tea warms you up on cold days.
Tea is such a tradition in my family, that it would be odd to not have any in my home at any given time.

Yes, usually in the form of chai. I started drinking chai when I moved to Seattle, the coffee capital of the U.S., since I don't drink coffee and needed an alternative drink to enjoy in coffeehouses.

I tend to drink it when I'm sick or when my cramps are flaring (Chamomile is supposed to be good for cramps), so I like it but don't drink it often.

When I worked in restaurants I used to take the pre-made tea home in big jugs. About a month in I noticed how much it stains, so I've pulled back ever since...
