I think it's all about the confidence rappers exude.

lol Lawd, some of these questions are so, so "stereotypical" aren't they? lol Considering most of the people buying rap music aren't black. That's what happens when you get your education from television and not the real sources. lol

Unbelievable. Lawd, that question was asked like rap artists are "experiments" of some type. lol I'm laughing at the coment that if black rap artists display "confidence" it's fake?? eek What? Are they not allowed to have confidence because they chose to "rap?" no matter their race/ethnicity? Don't get me wrong, I don't care for rap artists unless their lyrics makes some kind of sense, and not too much of it does these days.lol

Many AIG execs and other Wall street execs (<--original gangstas..lol)display(ed) confidence and quite a number of them are crooks in a suit, and very materialistic and I'm sure many women were(are) attracted to them. Maybe we should ask why?

Wonder what the criteria, qualifications or limits are for showing "confidence?" if you're a rapper..confuse lol Anyhow, on a serious note McGee, even if you have stereotypical, uneducated or ignorant views about "black rappers", I can assure you, rappers come in all races/ethnic groups/shapes/sizes and are just human beings like everyone else. Some women are attracted to businessmen, entertainers/artists/athletes, etc., it all depends on the individual females' choices.

You're right, it depends on the individual, and ironically, these crooks in a suit that runs the entertainment industry are the ones that are using predominantly black rappers to bring forth ignorant views. If these artist would take themselves seriously, then I believe the masses would take them seriously. You get back what you've put out there. Admittedly Elijah, I don't take too many of them seriously. I don't like how rap has become. There's a thread here that talks about how not so hot men degrade not so hot women, and feels that getting a hot woman is the way to go. Most rap videos project that image. This is one example of ignorance.

True about the crooks in the suit in the entertainment industry that use these young guys to promote ignorant views, and making things like "materialism" more important than societal issues, such as poverty, hunger, unemployment, education, homelessness, etc., and many of their lyrics lacking promotion of compassion and respect, especially towards women. I wonder if many of these rappers not all, ever consider that they have a grandmother, mother, sister, daughter or niece that may have to deal with men that call them names or disrespect them like the lyrics some, not all rappers, project in their music? It seems that at some point, do many of these rappers, regardless of their race/ethnicity, ever reach a certain level in their career, where it would occur to them that some of the lyrics they promote are hurting many young people and others out there?

It's obvious the record execs don't seem to care. But it is up to the consumer isn't it? If you know the lyrics some rappers preach are disrespectful to your own mother or daughter then why would you buy it? So the consumer should take part of the responsibility as well, problem is, there's not enough push within the media to inform or educate young people about choices when purchasing music. They have ads about cigarettes that remind people what they are spending their money on could possibly kill them and the manufacturers pushing cigarettes to consumers, so why not about educating consumers about the choices they make, especially young folk, when they purchase music?

Then there's the issue of "free speech". You'd have all the free speech supporters screaming "censorship". So when you look at it, society as a whole, the parents, consumer (youth that purchase rappers music with explicit/degrading lyrics), the record exec, all to blame for helping to promote it, because money talks in this society, yet adults in this society expect the youth to respect adults, at the same time, it's the adults promoting disrespect in this society and teaching it to them..... It's a nasty game.

I don't know which ladies you know who do, but I know plenty who don't including yours truly. They do not phase me in the least. Let me take that back, I'll drool over LL Cool J but that's the extent of that. I wouldn't want one in real life.

I get weary of people blaming the "suites" for how and why a specific genre of rap ...gangsta rap evolved. Damn, are you the captain of your own soul(s)? "THE MAN" made me do it! Yea, right, b.s.... neutral

It's funny, black people have always, always vehemently objected to racial stereotypes of how we've been portrayed on radio, movies and TV for the past century. I've realized, our objections had nothing to do with how we've been portrayed, it's just we hadn't been able to cash in own it. When given the opportunity we've "out whited" the white folks in our willingness to debase our ourselves/humanity in ways I would've never thought were imaginable. Fake? These Brothas are as fake as 3 dollar bill. Don't let the jaw jacking, macho bravado,or swagger fool you either.....scared little boys.

This is why when you read 2Elijah's comment, he nailed it. All has to take responsibility, and the record company executives 'owns' our ignorance. They owned it when most of those rappers sold their souls, and black people out for fame and money. Agreed, they had a choice. They owned it when we bought a lot of the garbage they rap about. We have a choice, too. Therefore, those men in suits are cashing in as you stated. A boring fact? Absolutely.
