When you plan to go out and get hammered Do you basically always take a taxi and have cabfare tucked away for the end of the night?

Ex-Moderator | Yes.
In the days that I still drank and owned a car, that is. I would take a bus to my destination and save cab fare for my ride home. Driving drunk is lame, scary and dangerous. And for me taking a cab was generally not much more than paying for parking, especially if you have a friend or two to split cab fare with. |

cant drive so i have to use a taxi to get home though i tend to just crash around a friends and get a bus home in the morning far cheaper and easier With Love there is no Death

I just make sure everyone knows I'm never designated driver and leave it up to them.

I go straight from the office. That way I have no choice but to take the subway home after. I have many fond memories of puking onto the subway tracks late at night.

Always, because I know there's not a chance I'll be heading home while transit is still running.
Of course, if city transit had any sense, they'd just make the Skytrain and at least the major bus routes 24 hours. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

I always plan to drink at home first, leave my car and cab downtown. Drinking at home never seems to happen, so I say I'm gonna drive and not drink that much, then I end up drinking way to much so I say I'm gonna cab home and leave my car downtown, then I end up driving home legally drunk.
My luck will run out one day so I've made it my mandate to never take my car out when I go out with friends to party.

I usually drive into the centre of town, leave car there and catch a taxi home...pick up the car sometime the following day.

I hate leaving my vehicle parked downtown or wherever... because that means I have to cab BACK to there once I am sobered up.
So, either way, it is 2 cab trips. If you drive with your vehicle, you will be making 2 cab trips AND 2 trips with your vehicle (burning up gasoline). I don't know where y'all live but the public transit here closes down wayy too early to rely on using to travel home after partying.

Back in the day, I knew a guy who really liked to tie one on. His dad owned a car dealership, so they had a pricing deal with one of the local towing companies. When this guy was about a half hour from wanting to head home, he'd call the towing company, tell them where his car was parked, ask them to go get it, then pick him up at the bar he was at.
They'd drive him home and leave the car out front. So for the price of a cab home and back the next day, he woke up safe and sound at home, and didn't have to screw around going back to get his car. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around planning to get hammered.
Does it actually feel good enough to be a goal? Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Does it actually feel good enough to be a goal? I was just about to say - I'm BORING, I never plan to get hammered. If I have a little too much I just wait it out b/c I'm always driving...

When I worked in London I was forever going out after work and then having to get the train home (my stop was the last on the line) and then have to get up early again to catch the train in and look for my car!! I got so tired of this that in the end I moved to this quiet little town and quit my job, and now everything is in staggering distance.. Some people are like Slinkies...
They're good for nothing but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

Does it actually feel good enough to be a goal? Yea, says I. The trick is to draw the line before the spins hit. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

I was always the designated driver - my choice = THANK GOD !! those fuckers were scary
If I was going to drink I stayed in a place that required no driving = DUH ! I out grew the desire to be the designated driver over the past yrs - seeing my friends drunk, slurring words, saying crap they do not remember the next day, acting an ass, staggering round just has zero attraction to me anymore. I have better things to invest my time in

Sometimes I take a taxi but have driven home either toasted or high many a night. These days it's getting too risky because there are now many .05 Booze/Drug testing police buses set up in Melbourne's hot spot areas, main roads, freeways and blind spots and of course you must stop to be breathalysed and test for drugs (drug testing is a swipe that is scraped against the tongue). A few idiotic peeps sometimes see the booze buses and make U-turns but there are cops sitting in police cars ready to chase these fools.
