Today Show, thanks for ruining my day... by doing a story on this commercial.
Way to pick a kid that is the same age and resembles mine too. That was just awesome. [Edited 4/2/09 10:45am]

Thought I'd ruin all yours too. Seriously though, it's a powerful commercial, but it's just awful that they obviously really upset that little guy to get their realism.

I've seen that look on my kids faces before for just losing me for an instant in a store...and I have honestly lost sleep over the wrenching it did to my heart and stomach....my boys looked a lot like that too at that age..they are 13 and 9 now....still

You should have seen the reaction from the people I sent it to at my office. They all hate me now. I was talking to my mom this morning on the phone about something else and asked her if she saw it on Today today. She immediately started to cry. That meant 'yes'.

Shit like this doesn't move me at all, it makes me more angry cause the manipulative nature.

Now I'll go smoke. Seeing a child repsond like that doesn't move you, regardless of it's manipulative nature?

Now I'll go smoke. Seeing a child repsond like that doesn't move you, regardless of it's manipulative nature? If you want to show the horrors of smoking state the facts, show pictures of lung cancer etc, don't try and tug at my heartstrings with a sad little pouty face child crying cause he "lost" his mother. I don't like to be manipulated. Plain n Simple. [Edited 4/2/09 10:57am] The Most Important Thing In Life Is Sincerity....Once You Can Fake That, You Can Fake Anything.

I don't like to be manipulated. Plain n Simple. Sorry, but that's reality when a child loses a parent. I'd imagine that many who are not parents might not care, but I'll tell you right now that most parents that smoke (and many that don't) are impacted in a huge way thinking of their child in that position. I don’t see that as manipulation at all. And the horrors of smoking have been shown many, many times and it’s not making an impact. Taking away the personal consequences and placing those consequences on someone else usually makes more of an impact on people. I like the message, I just hate that they used a child in this way to convey it this strongly.

I've never smoked a day in my life...
But death comes in so many other ways, my biggest fear in life is to die before all of my kids are adults.

Smoking
Drinking Drugs Auto accidents Sudden heart attack Dying in ones sleep self induced or natural - people die - parents die a commercial isn't going to make me think about those kinds of things more then I naturally have using a child in that manner to get that point across is simply wrong just my 3.2 cents on it all

Seeing it visualized, especially with a little boy that looks so much like mine, was very tough to see and drove those worries home x a million.

I don't worry about dying , I know I will I DO take action and make better choices now that I have children then before I had them If I die I know I have done all I could ( will - money - support ) for my kids and that I tried to live as healthy as I can and have spent as much time with them as possible. I really don't "worry" - when a thought comes in I look at it and make sure I have covered to the best of my abilities, what I could do - then I move forward
