sony cuts the price of the playstation.... 2, not 3
Sony cuts price of PlayStation 2 to $99 08:22 AMYahoo! BuzzShare DiggNewsvineRedditFacebookE-mailSavePrint2 Comments Recommend A Sony video game console is dropping in price, and it's not the PlayStation 3. The company announced they will slash the price tag for the PS3's predecessor, the PlayStation 2, to $99. The discounted console will be available starting April 1. "PlayStation 2 set the industry standard for worldwide mass market adoption and is a clear embodiment of Sony's commitment to platforms that deliver 10-year product lifecycles," says Jack Tretton, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, in a statement. The PS2 was the runaway winner of last generation's console battle, becoming the first system to sell 50 million in North America. The console has sold 136 million worldwide since its 2000 launch. However, the PS3, out since 2006, has found itself in an uphill battle against Microsoft's Xbox 360 and the stunning ascent of the Nintendo Wii. Rumors have swirled for months that Sony would cut the price of the PS3 to $299, but the company has denied all claims. Readers, what's your take on the announcement?
