Does anyone else here suffer from Migranes?

I had a doozy today headache, but feeling much better now. smile
Any suggestions on how do deal with them? I usually put ice on my face and try to sleep them off. But, I'm on a new medication now called Zomig and it's working pretty well smile

YES YES YES YES YES! I actually thought I had a brain tumor at one point. I was getting them at least twice a month and they would last for about 4 days. I take maxalt and it works within 15 mins if I take it in time. I usually start to see white fuzzy shit before the pain comes, that's when I take it. But if you don't have insurance you're screwed, 10 pills cost $400!!! With insurance I only pay $15 THANK GOD!

I also use a heating pad when it's really bad. There are some days when it's so bad that you can't lay down or sit up without excrutiating pain, all you can do is cry...awful awful things those migranes.

Awww...Carrie...you have them much worse than I do. I feel really bad for you! Mine are usually triggered by my allergies. I did end up in the emergency room once, though.
Do you get nausea too?
What's cool about this Zomig stuff is that you can take it at any point during the headache and it still works. My sister is on it too and she loves it.
It started right before I left for lunch and I went home and took the medicine and now I feel great. It's amazing.
(Maybe I should get a job as a pharmaceutical rep...lol)

Yes, I used to.

When I was living in Hawaii, I used to get them all the time...along with silver blindness (how I describe the temporary partial loss of sight). To end them, I finally figured out to wear good sunglasses whenever I was outside, especially when driving!!!

Other than that, I found myself getting them when overworked, I would have to close the lights and shelter my eyes.

Pills don't work for me, and I refused prescription types. Anyways they are rare these days.

I wouldn't wish a migrane on anyone!!! sad

Yep, sometimes I can throw up all day. It's probably the worse pain I have ever felt. It's almost like somebody is just hitting me in the head with a hammer. They are terrible! And then certain smells can aggravate them and if it's daylight...oh lord you may as well shoot me!

Thankfully I don't get them as much anymore. Stress is a big part of it too. When I worked for lawyers I had them all the time!

I almost always have a headache, so much so, it has to be a really bad one for me to even notice anymore.

My migranes are usually set off by my sinuses. I've gotten them less since I went on a new kind of nasal spray.

Usually, when I get one, I'll take a couple of non-aspirins, get a warm cloth, make it as dark as I can in my room, put the cloth over my eyes, and sleep it off. And, usually I have to take a dose of phenegran, because I usually puke when I have a migrane. Phenegran will cure nausea, and put you to sleep for awhile...

I get them from strong smells too -- gross perfumes, bleach (any strong, yucky smelling cleaning supplies) and when the road crews are out putting tar down...fagetaboutit!

A lot of people are saying that applying heat works for them, but I've found that ice takes down the facial/neck swelling.

Yes, I used to get migraines something terrible. Sensitivity to light, and to certain smells, the nausea, oh God, it's a bitch. I think mine was caused by stress also. I dont't get them as much anymore, in fact I haven't had one in a long while, thank God. I hope I NEVER get one again.

Have you tried shiatsu? 9/10 times, doing a particular action helps me to get rid of a headache.

Usually, when I wake up from my nap it'll be a bit better, at least, I can stand to be in light, and I'm not nauseated any more.

The warm cloth really does help, too. It's just a pain to keep it warm. smile

I avoid the sun.
I avoid perfume counters at major department stores.
I know when I need to s l o w down.
I rest if I feel one coming on.
I learned to do head exercises...like moving your head front to back, and side to side.
Take it easy in life, stress does it everytime.

Some stuff I think helped.

Yes. I'm prone to headaches in general too.
Last week I had a headache for DAYS.
It was what I call a threatening headache for a while. It's sort of hard to explain, but when I move certain ways I can slightly feel it coming on, but it's not a full blown headache, and sometimes it won't turn into one until hours or days later. And I don't take medicine for it till it's full blown. I'm just the type that doesn't like to take medicine at the drop of a hat for everything (if I think it will go away) - but I won't hesitate if the headache is completely there.

When I get migraines I have to take medicine, lay down and try and stay away from light, sunlight and lights from lightbulbs. As long as I take medicine before I go to bed I can eventually sleep it off. Only a couple of times in my life have I ever had one so bad that I felt nauseated.

One thing I've noticed is that I'll sometimes get regular headaches if I don't eat. It's not my intention not to eat, but most days I don't eat breakfast and it'll be hours and hours after waking up before I'll eat anything. That type of headache can turn into a migraine for me too, but it rarely does. It's a bad habit I have of waiting so long to eat.
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

When I was younger, it was the only way I got them. They'd just come on, and I'd puke, and the pain that vomitting caused made the headache worse. So my head would throb, and I'd just puke more. Bad stuff.

This is a serious question ok?

Do you get dizzy and light headed with a migraine?

I sometimes get headaches where I get light headed and dizzy. They can last a couple of days. (and no, it has nothing to do with drinking).
When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

I used to get them more when I was younger, but I found what worked best for me was to take a caffinee pill (Vivrin or NoDoz) and lots of ibuprophen. The caffinee is supposed to open up the blood vessels in your head. This usually works best if you take it right when you first feel a migrane coming on (for me when I saw the lights). I also found that some ice on the base of my neck helped.

I feel so sorry for you - migranes suck. I hope you find a way to control them soon!

Not migraines, but cluster headaches. They are much more intense, much quicker headaches. My father is a headache patient and has been to the hospital many times for these. He even was featured in a show broadcast on the Discovery Channel about headaches back in 1991.

I did alot of research regarding FRICKN headaches...

I would like to Nlighten you to an amazing find...
THEY wont b posting this in the medical journals anytime soon becuz MIGRAINES make the industry money.

However, check the stats on what your IRON count is in your body...BECUZ MIGRAINES are a serious form of LOW IRON...the only thing with IRON tho is U can SERIOUSLY do yourself some harm if U TAKE too much IRON...just research how much your weight verses the iron intake is and take a small amount...MAKE sure its not high processed...and that meens EAT some DANG SPINACH...U know those GREEN VEGGIES we tend 2 IGNORE...EAT so much SPINACH that U FEEL LIKE POPEYE...
and CALL me in the morning "honey, how come U don't call me anymore" >LOLOL had 2 say that cuz it runs around all over town.

Yes! Dizziness, light-headedness and nausea are all symptoms (of Migranes AND drinking too much lol )
But, really...they are. Sounds like a migraine to me. Maybe you should see your doc.
