Childhood toys that hurt I was a kid in the 70's and a good chunk of the 80's. I remember a time before people became obsessively over-concerned with kids getting injured. It was a fun time
We had stuff like wood burning kits, chemistry sets, and lawn darts! I have a childhood memory of my brother's Evel Knievel motorcycle getting stuck in my hair...that was not so much fun I also remember my friends and I playing "Discs Of Tron" and inevitably someone would get a frisbee in the face (End Of Line) . Totally, my brother and I had a bright yellow one! And the playground equipment was all metal slides that got sizzling hot in the summer sun, merry-go-rounds that routinely sent kids flying face-first into the sand, and rusty metal chains on the swings that would cut into your hands. Yeah, we used to get the merry-go-round to spin as fast as we could get it to go then just jump off. Facebook, I haz it - https://www.facebook.com/Nikster1969

We recently got Pick up Sticks for our nieces and noticed that the pointy ends were now rounded off.
It totally blew because you couldn't do that thing where you push the tip down to lift the stick and then grab it. Can you tell I love toys.

BTW, because of the title it's only a matter of time before someone posts some monster dildo, whips or cuffs in this thread. [Edited 3/27/09 22:47pm]

Those things were deadly instruments, I had a pair and man I almost broke my nose with them. They finally got banned I think. Do they still make the Slip-N-Slide? It was a long plastic slide that you'd roll out and lay on the lawn, and (I think) a spot to hook a hose up so water was constantly running out, keeping the plastic 'slide' wet and slippery. You'd take a running start, hurl yourself onto the slide and slide down the length of it. Got many bruises from that, and if you had a lumpy, hard lawn it could be quite painful.
One of the favorite things to play with in my neighborhood were those big wooden spools that wire and cables come on. We'd try to balance and walk on them. Other hazardous toys I remember are stilts, pogo sticks, ShrinkyDinks, and that toy where you'd take this stuff, melt it down and pour it into molds to make bugs or people or whatever, I can't remember for sure. My cousin got burned using that though, which is why I remember it at all.

I remember opening and flattening out cardboard (moving or appliance) boxes over peoples' steep driveways and covering them with baby powder. Then we'd get a runnin start and slide down them wearing just our socks. What morons.

We use to sit in cardboard boxes and slide down staircases. Other times we'd climb into our metal wagon, the front person would hold the wagon's handle to 'steer' (great "steering" that was ) and we'd roll down hills. Hit a rut in the road or a big enough rock, and that was the ugly finish of that ride.
