Is it racist if a black person calls a white person "white boy" when arguing? I only ask because someone called me "white boy" in an orgnote and I found it amusing as this person claims not to be a racist.
What do you think, is it racist or not? It was used in this way: "I knew you were just a fucking Texas white boy..." "You are just a pussy white boy..." That sort of thing... would you say that the person who said this was a racist? Edited... Depends on my position. If its just a friend saying it - no problem. If I had a boss who was black and we had a professional distance - I'd find it offensive and disrespectful But mote the "boy" than the "white". "Peace and Benz -- The future, made in Germany"

What do you think, is it racist or not? OF COURSE NOT!!! UNLEEESS: he calls you a 'whiteboy' them punches you in the mouth. cos any racist black man knows a whiteboy can't fight. OR... if he calls the 'whiteboy' a HONKY!!! now that's RACIST. OR, if in the middle of the argument, he looks around for a group of blacks, get their attention the yells. "YOU HERE WHUT THIS 'WHITEBOY JUST SAID TO ME." if you're white and you hear this... RUN!!! [This message was edited Sun Dec 8 22:37:02 PST 2002 by 00769BAD] I AM King BAD a.k.a. BAD,

It was certainly not a friend and the person used it as a derogatory term multiple times in the same orgnote... I think that the person is a racist. SUPERJOINT RITUAL - http://www.superjointritual.com

What do you think, is it racist or not? If said jokingly... no. Otherwise, yes, I would take it as a racist comment. What other reason would there be to call someone "white boy" while arguing?

I remember when I lived in LA I was invited to a friends house (he was black) in the hood. There was a Foreman fight on that night and all family and neighbours were there, Mama cooked some Gumbo and we all sank out teeth in some homefried chicken.
We were watching the opening fight, some african american against an italian dude. People in the room got really excited. Its so funny, but it happened more than once that brothers watching the fight would shout out:" Dayum, white boy's gonna get his ass kicked!" They'd realize what they just said, look at me and repeat: "I mean, that ITALIAN dude's gonna get his ass kicked..." Obviously there gotta be something wrong with that term. But honestly, it did not bother me "Peace and Benz -- The future, made in Germany"

Yes it is.
I tend to stay out of these types of discussions, mostly because the point is moot. Any time something other than a person's name is used to communicate to, with, or about that person is racist. It may not be I hate you racist...but racist nevertheless. The name the person goes by is the name that should be addressed. The only time this is a difficult situation is when describing the appearance of a person. White/Yellow/Red/Black? Nobody is any of those things...but how would you describe a person's skin tone? I tend to say on the darker side, or medium skinned, or light-skinned...but I have been known to use white or black as a short-cut (although I don't feel good about it). To summarize, I think it is whenever a name other than the person's name/handle/nick - of which is agreed upon by that person - is used, that makes it wrong - racist if color is used. Thank you.

Only if the "white" part is a reflection on something other than your being white.
You are white, after all. Fear is the mind-killer.

Well, sometimes it might come from an ignorant person, like in the case I have mentioned above. But when the term is used for provocation it surely is racist. It's sad how people are so quick to point out the color of ones skin when they are arguing.
What was wrong with just calling you a "Pussy Texan"?

That's what I thought... this person is clearly a racist although he/she claims not to be a racist.
The way I see it is this: If you are a racist, just come out and admit it. What's the problem? You have the right to be a racist if you want to be one... it takes all kinds in this world... sweet, sour, mean, nice, etc. Come on, confess. SUPERJOINT RITUAL - http://www.superjointritual.com

Calling you "whiteboy" isn't such a problem. If he calls you "cracka" he's looking for some chin music. But i guess
it would still depend on the situation.

I don't hold the view that racism implies only action, racism can manifest itself in a multitude of ways, including verbal.
