A World without Funk

Can you imagine? A world without funk? I know all you Prince fans would agree with me, that a world devoid of funk would be like living in Pleasantville. Oh the horror... What 5 funk album/cd would you introduce to Pleasentville if you were transported there?

Mine:

1. Any Parliment/Funkadelic
2. Hot Buttered Soul - Isaac Hayes
3. ONA Box set - Prince
4. The Hits 1,2,3 - Prince
5. James Brown's Greatest Hits

So many others came to mind, but I'd be satisfied with these 5.

Others?

Would be a boring fuck-up place. :O
Funk is the truest essence of soul.

1.Parliaments Greatest hits.
2.The Barkays Greatest Hits
3.Prince the Hits Set
4.Cameo's Greatest Hits
5.Rick James Greatest Hits

These are the funky album, not the soul or R&B
that's a different category

So soulful the edit

Ouch! You are one brutal sista, SweeTea! Five albums to chose? Thats impossible! Okay... I will give it a spontanious shot:

1. James Brown - The Popcorn (King)
2. The Undisputed Truth - Cosmic Truth (Motown)
3. Mandrill - Mandrilland (Polydor)
4. Roy Ayers . A Tear to a Smile
5. Cane and Able - Relating a Message to You

In about 2 seconds my choices would be different again.

You are BAD! Thats more than five! And Stanley Clarke and George Duke I'd consider more Jazz (I hate definitions and categories, but with five titles to pick, what can you do?)

Good to see some folks remember MANDRILL, a band who had PFunk OPEN shows for them.

Good to see some folks realize the uncut Funk of the Headhunters album.

Good to see the BAD MAN knows Hendrix Funk when he hears it, though I think it was mainly with the Band of Gypsys that he was most funky.

Good to see Tea giving Hot Buttered Soul the recognition it richly deserves. Needs to be remastered, like all of Isaac's studio albums.

Wave your Funk Flag HIGH. nod
