Ex-Moderator | I may be going crazy... but I am officially registered to train for the Twin Cities 10 mile race.
It takes place in October and is the same day/shares part of the same route as the Twin Cities Marathon. So you're running with all the marathon fans cheering you on and you start in Minneapolis and finish in St Paul at the capitol and it's all dramatic and such. Apparently it's really tough to get into (there is a lottery) but since I'm signing up for a training program with this one particular place I am guaranteed a spot! ( ) And I'm still finishing my learn-to-run class. The most I've run so far is about 2.5 miles and that was only once and that was running for 4 minutes, then walking for one and so on. But I'm doing really well and I'm really enjoying it. I never in a million years thought I'd enjoy running. Who knew? |

I don't know about THAT. I'll settle for a low-fat version of myself. I've got 56 more pounds to lose to hit my first goal. I don't even think I'll hit that before the race. But the race will keep me training. |

Carrie,
I just want you to know how inspiring you are. I had quit smoking once before, somewhere around one of the times you had and when you did again, I made the resolve to pick a time (along with other influencers..). I am not sure I will get into running...okay, I know I won't but you certainly continue to impress me with your carpe diem attitude and willingness to grow. Cheers for you! oh, and I quit on Good Friday...

But I can really feel myself changing as it happens. It's good. And good for you for quitting!!!! Quitting smoking was the hardest thing I think I've ever done for myself. And yeah, I tried quite a few times before it stuck. But this time even felt different from the other times. I just knew I was done. And seeing my success there has really helped me believe I can succeed in other things as well. I guess that's why I decided to try the running and changing my diet thing again. This certainly isn't the first time I've tried to lose weight or get in shape. But this one feels different too. I'm hoping this is the time it sticks. |

I'm doing a learn to run class too! But it sounds like you're a bit ahead of me yet, I am only at running for 2 minutes then walking for one, and so on.
But if you can do it so can I!! :hi5: Well perhaps not the 10 mile part, yet! Rock n roll baby

But if you can do it so can I!! :hi5: Well perhaps not the 10 mile part, yet! I'm on 8:1s this week! I started in mid-March. Even about 3-4 weeks into the class I was all "I'd never do a race, that's crazy". Now I realize it's not about competition (at least for me) it's just about having a training goal. How are you liking the class so far? I'm really enjoying myself. I like the small successes each week, seeing how much longer I'm able to run. |

Even if you make it halfway through or walk some of it. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!
Since you've been training, I think it's gonna be a breeze for you. MyeternalgrattitudetoPhil&Val.Herman said "We want sweaty truckers at the truck stop! We want cigar puffing men that look like they wanna beat the living daylights out of us" Val"sporking is spooning with benefits"

I am in week 3 of the class, I am enjoying it but finding it so, so difficult. Starting to feel like perhaps I need to take it slower than everyone else! Loser's way out lol, I will keep going. Good luck with the rest of your training, and the race!!! And congrats for stopping smoking too, sounds like you're doing really well Rock n roll baby
