And its 30 sum years old and virtually looks like new. The only wear is on the metal part of the table, spider webbing/some light scratches $40???? This desk (Cuddles,I believe you've seen it before) we got for about that much. The lamps are IKEA btw. (the ones I said are over 10 years old) There's definitely a lot to be said for "thrifting". I just can't search for stuff. If it's there and the price is right! Awesome! Otherwise, fuck it,I'm going to IKEA.

as a kid my favourite fantasy was to be locked in at IKEA overnight, and I could sleep in any of the beds and live in whichever room I wanted!

I only recently gave away a black IKEA veneer coffee table I inherited from my parents. It was 40 years old!! and still looked the same - I used to colour in chips with a black marker

i looooove my ikea bookshelves. i've never been able to have all my books in one space before - they were usually scattered in various small/cheap bookshelves throughout wherever i was living. ikea made it affordable for me to just bite the bullet and get a bunch of big bookshelves and place them all next to each other - et voila - i have a library!

The founder and still owner of IKEA is one of the richest men in the world. The furniture is generally good though, most of my stuff is from there. It's a bit more special for us here in Sweden though I guess, some kind of altar we're supposed to worship at.

But personally, I wouldn't go that far up, I'd feel claustrophobic. Probably up to the 5th high shelf, maybe even 6 shelves high. . [Edited 3/23/09 16:26pm]

We got two Billy's for the office. All the furniture is in white. The desks (with some shelving) are EXPEDIT as in the pic. The walls are an intense blue. [Edited 3/23/09 16:32pm]

My friends all love IKEA. I think it's overrated. Don't get me wrong, I've bought some really cute things there, like this:
but overall, I have no interest in spending a whole day there like my friends do. However, I wish I knew about IKEA when I moved out on my own back when I was 18. They're super cheap when it comes to general household stuff like measuring cups, bowls and such. Shake it til ya make it

I don't have one where I live so when I'm traveling to Minneapolis to go to Ikea, I'm also hitting the Cheesecake Factory in Edina. There's a method to my madness. Shake it til ya make it

It's weird that way I think, even considering that you spent nearly all your life in Australia you'll find more at home here in some ways. I know people who were born here and raised by immigrant parents trying very hard to raise their children in a Swedish way to give their children the best possible position to make it in Swedish society. Then the children (my friends) go back to wherever their parents came from and they feel like they REALLY came home even though they don't share language and culture at all.
