This thread is interesting to me because just about 3 wks-a month ago, my mom was in the hospital after a surgery and her blood pressure and blood sugar dropped so low that she became unresponsive. For awhile it was thought she'd maybe suffered a stroke (luckily she hadn't).

She told me that during the period of time she was 'out' and the doctors and nurses were trying to awaken her or get some kind of response from her, that she wasn't in her body. She said it was like she was standing leaning up against the wall on the other side of the room, watching what everything that was going on; she could see the medical personnel, the rest of the room, even herself lying on the bed, and could hear them asking her to raise her arm or open or eyes.

I asked what emotions she felt during this experience: peaceful, happy, etc? and she said mainly she just felt frustrated at 'herself' on the bed because she wouldn't (couldn't) do what was being asked of her, like saying something or wiggling her toes or her finger. She said she never saw or heard anything else, such as a bright light or another voice speaking to her or anything, just what was happening in the room.

She said the next thing she was aware of, she was back in her body and coming around to consciousness in another hospital room.

Maybe. When I was 11 or 12, I was choked so hard I passed out. What I remember is feeling all peaceful, and in a dreamlike state seeing what looked like a train or subway full of people stop at the station, the doors slide open and I was about to board the train when I suddenly heard a far away voice call my name, I stopped and turned. I woke up all relaxed and confused wondering why I was laying on the floor and why was this person shaking me so hard screaming in my ear, then I remembered being choked. To this day I always wonder what would have happened if I'd ignored that voice and actually boarded that train and the doors closed.
