Woman Returns $80,000 To Buckhead Bar

What would u do?

ATLANTA -- When Deanna Hamilton stopped in for a glass of wine at East Andrews Bar in Buckhead earlier this month, she was surprised to be richer as a result.

When a bartender rung up the wrong amount on her debit card, he accidentally credited back $80,000 to her account instead of $8. She immediately contacted the bar when she discovered the extra money in her bank account.

As a thank you for being an honest customer, the bar is holding a thank you party Friday, for Deanna and 100 of her friends.

"I logged into my account and saw $80,000 had just been deposited," said East Andrews customer Deanna Hamilton. "I thought my computer was playing tricks on me, so I logged off and relogged into my bank account on another computer. When I still saw the deposit, I thought I’d won a drawing or something, but then I scrolled down and saw the money was from East Andrews. Then I knew it was some kind of error, so I called to report it."

"We are sincerely grateful to Deanna for reporting the accounting error, which is why we’re thanking her with a party in her honor," said East Andrews President Steve de Haan.

Not that she'd have gotten anywhere with that money, but good on her for the honest gesture. And good on the bar for acknowledging it.

I would have done the same. It's like when you find a purse or wallet that someone accidentally dropped while at the store or they left it in the cart. I always take it in to the store, because I also have forgotten my purse, and would want someone to do the same for me. So far I have been lucky that only honest people have been the ones to find it. smile

That kind of error is easily traceable and would have been discovered, absolutely.

Still and all, good for her.

once a cashier gave me an extra $100 at a target store, so i noticed, and went back into the store to give it to the cashier, and she actually became angry with me for pointing out her mistake! mad so next time this happens, i'm keeping it, i'm tired of being nice, only for people to be rude in return! lol lol lol lol hehehe!

True but a lot of people would have created a nasty mess 4 themselves.

Ok, but let's be real...no way in hell she was gonna get away with it. The credit card company would've caught it and I'm PRETTY sure she knew that, so I'm pretty sure that helped her decision out a whole lot. Now, the REAL question is: Had it been 80,000 CASH would she have brought that back?...HELL NAW! lol

I dont know man...I think there is a bit of a different mindset in the south when it comes to stuff that don't belong to you...a few years ago, in Savannah, a woman found a bag full of cash..not sure of an exact amount but it was a ass load, few hundred thousand...she turned the money in to the police dept...if I recall correctly, the company that the money belonged to paid off her car or some shit...

I'm not real sure I would have turned it in..I'd probably be typing this from Costa Rica or something...
