I don't hate Boston sports teams as much as I get sick of the sports media fawning copiously over how awesome some teams are once they rise to greatness. I absolutely hated the Celtics growing up in the 80's, but I was sooo rooting for them to win the NBA Finals last season. I thought that they had gone through an appropriate enough time in the wilderness to deserve to win another title, plus I wanted Kevin Garnett to get that ring he so much deserved, plus I was sick of Kobe Bryant being such a tool.

As for those rivalries, my hometown Chicago Bulls had to get past the bad boy Detroit Pistons in the early 90's and then we had to fend off the Knicks, the Pacers and the Utah Jazz. I suppose that the whole country loved the Bulls early on, but then everyone outside of Chicago probably wanted the Bulls bumped off by the late 90's. But we suck these days. (Technically, we're still competing for the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, but save for the Celtics, Cleveland Cavalliers, Orlando Magic, and maybe the Miami Heat, everyone else in the Eastern Conference is either so so or they suck.
