Incident at the Rental Car Counter Ok so I’ll preface this with a few bits of info before I get into the whole situation. I lived in Germany for 3 years so I know that European customs and courtesies are different from American ones. I also know that we as Americans can be rude and uncompromising, in certain situations. That said, I am not usually UGLY in situations unless provoked but I will not be bullied (those who know my history know why) and I will not be taken advantage of, I am not nice.
So on last Thursday I left my house a 4:15 am amid the pouring rain to catch a flight to California, when I arrived in Sacramento I proceeded to the rental car facility to pick up my rental car. So I get in line and there are about 25 people in line. As the line moves up I notice a unattended bag that the 8 or so people in front of me are moving around as the line moves. That bag makes me nervous, because all you hear is "do not leave your bags unattended" so I ask and someone in front of me but not directly who's bag is this and they say says "oh it belongs to that woman" and points out side to a woman on a cell phone smoking a cigarette. So I too go around that bag. About 5 minutes later this woman appears and proceeds to move in front of about 7 people. She is standing NEXT to me and trying to get by the couple in front of me. The guy of the couple was really a jerk but he spoke for us all and said, Not happening lady, you left, whoever you asked to watch your bag left it, you are not getting in front of me. He used very colorful language and she backed off and then turned and said to me, "well I was here first." I told her that she wasn’t getting in front of me either and she got LOUD and said she was here first, at least 5 times. I looked her in the eye and said why are you arguing with me? Because he got loud and violent you backed off of him and I have a nice face and you think I won’t curse your ass out right here? LOUDLY. Then I turned to the counter person and said "I need security, this woman is harassing me." They called the cops. Anyway she insisted for a few more seconds and I told her to move her ass behind me. That her problem was with the person she asked to watch her bag and didn’t move it in the line with her. She just sat down on the floor behind me. When the sheriff showed up I told them what happened and they said it’s all settled now and I said yes, she just sat there, they didn’t talk to her. Oh the person who she "asked" to watch her bag never said anything so I don’t know that she even asked anyone. Judging from her accent I believe she was German, and I know that queuing in Germany is very different. But I was not in the mood plus it was taking the rental car people a about 10-20 minutes per customer to get a car UGH. There was no way I was being nice to her and adding an additional 10 minutes to my wait time. The guy at the counter said she was in there alot and did that all the time, that was the first time anyone had stood up to her We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color. 1st!
good move. I bet you feel good inside about yourself. too often times in life we let others walk over us, because we don't want to "make a scene".

So here's my take on this.
Whether her bag was there or she was there, I wouldn't care. I'd let her in without a fuss. It'd still be behind her if she was actually standing beside her bag. These kinds of things are no big deal to me not even worth getting all fussed up about.

Had my husband been there he would have been horrified he is very non confrontational. It did feel good though to stand up to her. These kinds of things are no big deal to me not even worth getting all fussed up about. well the main reasons I reacted the way I did was 1. the bag was un attended, and about 10 people had already walked around it. 2. she wasn't in the bathroom, she was outside smoking and chatting on the phone, HELL I wanted to sit down, we all could have just left our bags there in line and did whatever we wanted to do. 3. She got LOUD first. very loud and I am more proud that I resisted the urge to slap that bitch, (proceeded by "Who the phuck do you think you are hollering at" of course) after being up that long and waiting in line But I hear ya, and thank goodness for people like you it keeps the balance in the world when the rest of us are maniacs We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color. I just don't care about things like that. I wasn't saying my reaction was any better. And I wouldn't say I am full of goodness!
