A crate is just a sort of carrier. Some owners train their dogs to, while at home, use the crate as a sort of den, or to only relieve themselves in the crate if they (the owners) expect to be out of the house for any length of time. No biggie, and certainly NOT locking the animal up.

that would make sense, more than keeping it locked in there for hours on end

nod That's exactly what crate-training refers to. I have no idea what weed people were smoking to think it had anything to do with locking the pup in.

when I see a picture of a crate, without knowing anything else, it's what I'd automatically assume, and reading this thread didn't help me much until your post eek

here's what mine looks like

I keep my gimp, AKA IMAGO in there

I simply drop kick that mut into the crate and karate chop the door shut and be on my way. yay!

A cage and a crate is 2 different things.

No it's not. A search for "dog crate" yield these pics and none of the results I looked at are different. Admittedly I didn't look at all approx 39,200 of them. Wouldn't you love to spend 8 hours in something of a corresponding size? No food and water, must be great.

But wait guys! That Golden Retriever is SMILING!!!

The first one is just thinkin Why the fuck do they lock me in the end table? confused

In the wild dogs sleep on the ground. Where in the wild do you see dogs with blankets Jen?

The ground is soft. Hard plastic on a hard floor is not. If I spend a day in the woods with Uzie she'll dig somewhere soft and lie down there.

Yes, my experience is very limited. I have after all only had dogs since I was 15 and worked as a dog trainer for 3 years. I meet no more than approx 20 people a day who I often share experiences with. The classes/courses I've taken also gives me no experience at all, and especially not training with one of Sweden's best IPO/protection/tracking/obedience training instructors.
My experience is sorely lacking I'm afraid. sad

We got several little parks at our dogs disposal.

So they can sunbathe all they want all day long when the weather is good

Even big doggies

Pups are separated from the others

They all have doghouses and shelters in case they're too hot or too cold, otherwise we put them in an enormous shed if the weather is too bad. They sleeps in our house or in confy stalls.

We only use crates to secure newborn pups or for cats when they don't get along well (which had never been the case)
Is there any place of refuge one can flee from this insanity
