Come on Phil, are you serious? I've seen it often enough to be able to assume and be fairly accurate. It's because they feel, albeit somewhat pathetically, that there is power in being well liked here. It's just a lowly little message board. lol

Honey, you're the one giving it power with all this whining and bitching about it.

I wouldn't call them cliques. Everyone has been really friendly to me here. I've shot all kinds of drink out of my nose laughing at the characters on this site. Maybe they're just close because of the time they've spent here. Someday I hope to be like that, too.

Can't we all just get along and have some doritos and tootsie pops? eek

I mean, do you see the irony in using words like "pathetic" and "lowly little message board," while shouting your outrage about the behavior you observe? I mean, make up your mind. Either it's pathetic and silly (and not worth worrying about) or it's meaningful and has power over people's lives, in which case I would say it makes sense that people would be invested in it.

I have had it happen to me. But, I think it was because some people (maybe on the same side of a discussion if not member of a certain "clique") disagreed with me. shrug And I think some people assumed things about me which were not correct, too. Ironically, they accused me of something of which they were guilty, in a way. I mean, anytime one engages in a potentially "sensitive" discussion, well there is a risk of it escalating because people are very emotionally invested. It's hard to take sometimes when a person just dismisses--even ridicules another person's belief system, experiences, or way of life. Yes, one becomes very "sensitive." It works both ways though, you know? We are ALL sensitive in certain discussions or contexts. So.. you know in way, we are all victims (are victimized or behave like we are victimized if we are personally attacked for our beliefs) at one time or another.

For me, after a while, some discussions aren't worth engaging in because the result is always the same. I got tired of participating in threads in which I had already said all I had to say.

So, I decided to find new ones! lol lol lol And if I couldn't find new ones or new ways to say something I had already said at least, then... why participate?

MrGee? The person who has been incredibly insulting in several threads - including a thread about implants?

That person?? Some people weren't receptive to their claims in a thread? Perhaps it was because of their general attitude, and not a bunch of people ganging up on them. Maybe?

I'll have to see a thread by desire2006 before I comment on it.

Oh no! lol This is why I'm here more now! lol It was in Pol/Rel.

But you know, I still go there. I just know what to expect. It's pretty predictable. I am just saying there are reasons for it. I think WE ALL have had our feelings hurt (or have become more emotional than we would have liked) in Pol/Rel, but that's the nature of the forum, you know? It gets heated. That's the way it is! lol And people do sort of dismiss others--or put them down sometimes ON ALL sides of ANY issue. So everyone is guilty of it, I think.

Most everyone, I would think.

See, this is what I mean about "carry over." I am talking about maybe the behavior carrying over. And you know discussing other cultures is sort of a Pol/Rel topic, you know? People are emotionally invested in their cultures, obviously. So this comment wasn't very nice and was a inflammatory a bit--even if it might have been considered a joke, right? Sometimes instigators say things veiled in a joke, but they really mean it. Not always though, but sometimes it's hard to tell the difference.
