I would have played it off like the headphones were on mute and just started motioning to the book or dvd set and talking about it, and if she wanted to take the headphones off and be like "what?" then for sure she would be engaged in conversation.

I'll go out of my way to avoid it, in fact. Me too! Although I'm jeckle and hide about it. Sometimes, I'll strike up hilarious length conversations with strangers out of nowhere. And other times, I wish I was coated in Harry Potter's cloak so I could just slip out of view.

I don't know if you'd get coffee out of it, but it might add a spark to your day! the valley girl voice might have sent her running isn't buffy a valley girl?

I had a fun exchange a few months ago. I was using the public computers at the library (great way to meet people, but difficult to concentrate on anything). This young woman next to me (rather plump and boyish looking, but cute with dark rimmed glasses) asked me if I knew how to turn off the sound on the computer. I didn't, but when I looked over at her screen, she was on a Smiths fan site
I couldn't help myself. I just started babbling how I used to be the biggest Smiths fan ever and they were the only band I ever listened to. She said, "I'm still that way!" Then I blushed.

Thats cool! Something similar happened to me when I was on this site in the university library...but unfortunately the guy was a bit annoying and kept singing 'Purple Rain' to me so I just went upstairs to the other computer lab If you will, so will I
