I got bitten in the face by a dog once and needed stitches. If you have any liquid Vit E capsules, cut one open and use a little bit of that on your stitches, or vaseline. It does help the itching.

Ouch, that sounds awful!
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I've had stitches in my shin, foot, and lip. But I don't recall them being particularly itchy. Do antihistemenes help with itching?

Feel better soon.

hmmm

I washed them gently last night and smeared more antibiotic ointment on. I'm supposed to keep them wet with the stuff at all times. Sometimes it helps, sometimes not. The one that was all red and irritated last night looks much better today, so I suppose they're just healing and I just have to get over it.

Damn, that's cold, Muse! lol

But seriously, with all the things on the market now isn't there at least an ointment she can use to stop the itching? I know if it were me, I would be soooo tempted to scratch....would something as corny as calamine lotion help though?

I had abdominal surgery twice; they used staples the first time, and the second time they glued me closed!

I've heard about the glue they use to close an incision. So that stuff really does work? That's amazing!

It really is amazing! When the doctor removed the big bandage a day after my surgery, all there was underneath was my incision with some Steri-Strips covering the length of it. I asked him about stitches, or staples like my previous surgery, but he said that this glue they use now for many surgeries bonds so tightly and there was no need for any other closure (besides the steri-strips). I was still nervous about it though! lol But it held tight and I barely have any visible scarring.

Neighbor's dog bit me when I was 7. My fault - the dog wasn't familiar with me and Id put my face right up to his and CHOMP...happened really fast, so the biting part actually didn't hurt. His tooth punctured right through my cheek, near my lip, so that's why the need for stitches.

Moral of story: don't put your face up to next to a strange animal's face. biggrin

I had about a million stitches in my hoo-ha when I had my eldest daughter (at least that what it felt like - she was down there bloody ages - at one point I had images of her doing a needlepoint picture of a cottage scene on my perinium!)

I don't really remember them itching (though they hurt like buggery!) I can only suggest tapping them lightly and carefully if they get unbearable
I'm not stopping. I haven't even taken my coat off

C'mon and dance while you, while you still have your cherry babe, cherry babe..

Ouch! If that happened to me, I think I'd be a bit afraid of dogs after that. Especially at the tender age of 7.
