Here in Ireland, the short version of Patrick is Paddy. Patty is much less common and is short for Patricia.

i grew up going to one of two churches St. Patrick's, where my grandparents went and my mom grew up at, or St. Charles', which was my home parish, so I always heard St Paddy's day and it wasn't until i moved away that i first heard St Patty's day.

only cause it's St Patrick's the show that started it all Riverdance
