Some perspective...

I'm sat here watching Red Nose Day/Comic Relief and I can't believe how lucky I am. I have 2 beautiful little girls, fast asleep, safe in their beds and I'm watching these poor little mites on TV, dying of Malaria - their parents at their bedsides, desperately praying for their babies to pull through... and all for the sake of a £5 net. disbelief

In the UK 1 in over 8,000 women die during child birth - In Africa it's 1 in every 8. Any woman who has anything other than a straightforward pregnancy will die from complications that are easily avoided and dealt with here. It shouldn't happen.

The reports were heartbreaking. I have donated most of the money that I was saving for my lotusflow3r membership. I'll just have to wait to see Prince's latest venture - that money is better spent saving someones life...

I'm not one for posts like this - but I thank god that I live in a society that doesn't let this happen; where there is medicine and emergency help at the end of a phone line, where we can be at a hospital within minutes, that I don't have to kiss my babies goodnight each night wondering whether they'll wake up with malaria by the morning, or not wake up at all. I'm grateful that I was able to give birth to my babies in a clean environment with every medical aid at my disposal and not worry about bleeding to death for the sake of an 18 pence injection.

Anyone here, who hasn't already done so - please pledge what you can...

There, but for the grace of god, go any of us.

We watched it last night. So very sad.
I hope all of the mosquito nets help. I think more needs to be done than just nets but I guess that is a good start.
It is hard to imagine living in those kinds of conditions.

sad
