The Charles is still terrific! and my best friend likes going there cause she can get drunk off Sangria at Tapas Teatro next door before the movie starts lol

That movie is hair raising disbelief esp the scene where the sister persuaded her gay brother to have sex with her.

I love Traci Townsend, the story is freh, it gave an objective fair view as opposed to the rehashed, redundant, forced "men = dogs" storyline thats in almost every black movie.

These 3 movies represent the new indie black wave, if black cinema turns to this direction, I'm SO glad!

Traci Townsend - Haven't seen it yet, recorded it the other day. I wanna hear Carmen Rodgers' songs all up in there.

For the U.S. foreign counts as independent.
Smaller, non-commercial movies. 'Slumdog Millionaire' is an independent but Miramax is owned by a commercial studio, so whether they actually are independent is debatable.

so pretty much non-commercial or foreign = indie? ....Okay, well I love these...

mushy geez! I love all these!!

Me too!

For honorable mentions I need to add Fargo, Siesta, Betty Blue, and Paris Is Burning to my list!
cool

In addition to Crouching Tiger and Menace II Society . . .

I want to love Hav Plenty -- interesting story, good characters -- but it's so poorly executed I can't.
