Okay this is probably a stupid question, but how do I know if a movie is an "independent film"? If you will, so will I

For the U.S. foreign counts as independent. Smaller, non-commercial movies. 'Slumdog Millionaire' is an independent but Miramax is owned by a commercial studio, so whether they actually are independent is debatable. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

I love Once Were Warriors, forgot about Swingers, & Raising Arizona is in my top 10 The Usual Suspects is another fave, I just get fuzzy these days w/ what truly qualifies as indie b/c the financing is so murky...

I remember watching this in local TV network...
And I was amazed to know that its 10 years old when I thought the movie was recent. The story is a breath of fresh air.

and i'm not sure if this is an independent film but to me it has all the hallmarks of an independent film anyway so i'll just mention it since it is the best movie i've seen last year, probably: and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

To say a film is an "indie" is pretty much not that correct, because most films are usually in partnership with other production companies, even involving other "indie" companies. Now, if all of the companies involved in the making of that film are independents, then yeah, it's an indie. Hell, even the big companies have to partner up with other companies - some smaller than themselves - these days because budgets are just too damn huge (and risky) for a major company to take on by itself.
But that's just the making of the film when talking about indies. Distribution is pretty much always a major company involved, but that's normal. So, yeah, "The Usual Suspects" wouldn't fall under the "Indie" banner. I think "The Terminator" had about 4 or 5 production companies as well but I think all of them were inie companies to a certain extent. nWo: bboy87 - Timmy84 - LittleBlueCorvette - MuthaFunka - phunkdaddy - Christopher

I used to be crazy about 'The Usual Suspects' but that's cooled although it's a very good movie. 'Secretary' was so hot! so is 'She's Gotta Have It.' My ex and I used to have mad sex after watching it. Terminator is good but I have two action faves that top it. T2 of course, and 'Matrix Reloaded.' 'Romper Stomper' I've seen a couple of times. Maybe three. Not sure why I keep watching it. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

I'm waiting till they release this movie to DVD, this lady acts in it... The great late Diana Sands I swear I cannot take my eyes off the screen whenever she's in it, she truly embodied charisma and spunk. She could've been a household name had she lived.
