I understand what you're saying, and I know that a lot of people feel the same way, but how are things ever going to change if we don't start somewhere?

Let's ask this woman's son how he feels about it in 10 years ok? biggrin

I doubt he'll see it as weird. He'll likely be surrounded by others with similarly "unique" names.

If he's around a lot of musicians kids or celebs kids he'll be right at home.

If a bully wants to pick on you, they're gonna find a reason, name or not. Fear of bullying is no reason to discard a perfectly good name.

Ickett is NOT a perfectly good name. Some names are more inviting to bullies and that one takes the cake.

Like so called "foreign" names too, huh?

I don't think he'll see it as weird either - until he gets picked on about it for the first time.
Besides, with a mother's "name" like M.I.A, it's unlikely that she'll be around enough to pay for him to go to a good private school in 10 years. evillol

I don't understand what you're getting at here really - all I am saying is that the name Ickett is very inviting to make "jokes" about. Anything else is a whole different thread.

Charlotte is a perfectly respectable name until kids are old enough to know what harlot means, sadly the only thing that rhymes with it mad
Or Vanessa (the undresser)
etc

Ickett is really cute!!!

maybe it's time for the government to start rejecting names.

Try saying it aloud ten times in a row, and then see if you still like it.

I kinda like the name and for the bully aspect, if the bullies want to find something to pick on they're going to find it. Doesn't matter what the name is, actually with a name like Ickett the kid could be well adjusted by the time he's going to school.

I don't think you've thought this through - it doesn't even sound like a name - it sounds like an involuntary reaction. The nickname for it says it all - would you want to go by the nickname 'ick'?

M.I.A.: 'My Baby Is Not Called Ickitt'

M.I.A. gave birth to a baby boy on February 11, just a few days after she performed "Swagga Like Us" with Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, T.I., and Kanye West at the Grammys. Although Latina.com reported that the "Paper Planes" singer had named her son Ickitt -- a story that many media outlets including omg.yahoo.com had picked up -- the rapper writes on her MySpace blog that her "baby is not called Ickitt, Pickit, or Lickit. Thank you very much to all the Hollywood press. He's a baby, he don't need press." Whew! That name sounded, well, simply icky.

"I didn't release the baby name because I didn't think it was news," she continues. "But I will be back with something newsworthy soon. Till then, go pick on Apple, Satchel, and Moon Unit."

Shall we?

lol Well, I don't need to think it through. I don't like the name, but to each his own. There are plenty of wacky names out there and I'm sure he'll survive.

You know, all things considered, I don't think it's going to be his really crap, easily-lampooned name that's going to scar him for life. I mean, M.I.A. is his mother.... lol
