Need motorcycle help!!

Ok, so some dude noticed my bike being stored in my parents garage while he was working on their roof a year or so ago and he recently called me wanting to buy it.

Problem is, I'm having a hard time finding a current value for it.

It's a 1992 Kawasaki ZX-7RR. Very, very rare - one of 200 in North America and only 12 were sold in Canada.

And is it also considered a classic now that it's over 15 years old?

This one is not mine but it's exactly the same.

If it's rare, really really rare and it runs, have him make you an offer. What is he willing to pay for this rare gem?

Or...

what do YOU want for it? Is it sentimental? Good times were had?

fuggit say 10k FIRM...

It needs to be drained and a tune up of course but other than that, it's ready to go.

It has no sentimental value to me.

I just found a post elsewhere that said 5k firm if it's in good shape so I'd still ask what he's willing to pay...

Given that you ride it i am assuming this thing has never been ridden hard lol

It really depends on how much he wants it, it is a classic and if it is low miles and has been looked after then you can name your price.

Here i would say 3-5k depending on condition, miles and originality.

I think that post is from quite a few years ago....

After 15 years doesn't the value start to go back up?

It hasn't been ridden hard by me, but it was raced on a regular basis before I go it.

It's all stock, except a few little accessories and the steel braided lines.

Amazingly the thing has never been involved in a serious crash. I wouldn't say it's mint, but in excellent condition.

Chip in the front faring and crack that has been drilled on side faring. I circled where in the pic.

3-5 pounds or US dollars?

GBP

When you say raced do you mean track or just thrashed on the road?

Then it is basically worth fuck all unless it was a works one and has winning pedigree.

Raced bikes ALWAYS have dubious history because racers #1 ALWAYS CRASH EM and #2 Tend to spanner themselves, try and do it on a shoestring or never have the bits.

If it was a works bike and came from a legit works racing team then you would know about it but any normal buyer should run a mile from a raced bike with no pedigree.

Sorry but the normal idea would be if it is a mint road one then the rarity would add the value, if it is an ex racer then beware.

Unless he wants to race it then you may do ok because it will have alot of prep (lockwires etc) done so he may pay for that.

Cool. I get the difference now.

I don't know it's firm history because quite frankly when I bought it I just didn't care. I can only say that it is all stock - no replaced parts (except a hindle pipe), appears to have been taken proper care of and from those that have worked on it since it's been in my hands have told me it doesn't appear to have come from someone that 'shoestringed' it.

What I do know is that I am the third owner and the guy who had it before me did eventually take it on the road. He was selling it because the bike was known to the police as the bike that always got away from them...until they finally nailed his ass. Then every time he took it out he was targeted. So he just wanted to get rid of it. Or so he says.

I haven't called the dude that wants to but it back yet so I really have no idea what his intentions are. I only know that he saw it, always had it on his mind and apparently is in a position to purchase it now.

So I need to know a ballpark price.

You know how i feel, if i didnt have a small person on the way i would buy it. It is a great bike but i am Kawasaki through and through. If it has been looked after you will still get decent money just not top dollar because buyers just wont be 100% about its history.

Honestly, I'm not looking to make a mint off it. I just don't want to get ripped off.

So maybe ask $8000 CDN? See if he thinks that's too high?

That is 4k GBP. I would say a bit high for an ex race bike but i have not seen it close up. I would say 6 would be closer but you have nothing to lose. I dunno what the bike market is like there right now, but here the arse has dropped out of it.

Tis the season where guys get the spring itch so they are willing to pay a bit more. If you're gonna sell a bike, now is the time to do it.

I guess I'll just start high and of course be willing to go down - and maybe not let it go for under 6k.

I'm trying to sell a bike, not make some guy come around time and time again begging me to keep polishing his tailpipe.
